Your Dream Invention

We still don't have flying cars. I am extremely disappointed in humanity, but I'm ready to move on.

There are still many new gadgets and whatnots that have been invented in recent years that have made my life a bit more convenient or added a great deal of entertainment to it. Some of them I had hoped for since I was a kid, while others came as pleasant surprises.

One of the best recent ones, for me, has been digital music. Besides the obvious convenience of not having to buy whole albums full of crap you don't like for the one song you do, for me the greatest benefit is finding very obscure pieces that I would never find in a store.

There is still some stuff I would've liked to have seen by now. I still believe that feasible, practical virtual reality entertainment is pretty much inevitable and is the future-tech I most look forward to.

My dream invention, not surprisingly, would be personal air transport vehicles (flying cars).

What about you? What has been your favorite invention or new gadget in the past 5, 10 or 20 years? Is there something you expected to have in the 00's (or Naughties) that isn't around yet? What future tech do you most desire or look forward to?

Do you have a dream invention?

a holographic controller (like blackberry sized) that could manifest any sort of vehicle

want a car? *beep boop beep* hey look a car!
let's make it a 1968 Mercury Cougar . . . Caribbean Blue *boop blip* hooray!
a pick-up! a limo! speedboat! yacht! you name it

either that or a way to store things in 'Hammerspace'

I actually despise the idea of flying cars- pollution, noise, and blocked views of the mountains (out here in big-sky country at least) with skyways. ;)

Anyway, I would love to see fully immersive virtual reality. The applications for virtual offices (i.e. no commutes), visiting family or friends from across the world, and entertainment would be astounding.

My dream invention has yet to be conceived by anyone, simply because we don't know what exciting and groundbreaking form it may take. That's why I look forward to it.

An aluminum can-sized device that separates the hydrogen and oxygen in water (electrolysis) that requires only a minimal current to operate... and if we really want to dream, lets say is can do desalinization too... and it requires no electricity. Then we could possibly have cars and planes you fill with water instead of explosives.

The Mr Fusion feul system from Back to the Future. The car still used feul to run, but if the Mr Fusion system could be adapted so that the car could run on whatever trash could be dumped into it I think most drivers would be happy considering the ever rising feul costs.

The hand remote/wand from Minority Report too which would be a very advanced Wiimote - not entirely useful to me, but it would look nice.

Though useful to me things would include a remote controlled site-to-site transporter to reduce the time I waste sitting about on trains or a personal cloak so that a ticket collector couldn't see me. that way I'd save all the money I waste sitting on trains.

God, I would LOVE a transporter. No more airlines or commuting problems.

I also wouldn't mind one of those moving, floating chairs that the people in Wall-E used. :)
