Your Box office Predictions for Star Trek? (and box office tracking)

Re: Your Box office Predictions for Star Trek? (and box office trackin

Perhaps so, but I look at the numbers for other recent movies that aren't even remotely as appealing as a big-budget TREK film getting decent reviews...and I think that worldwide total is possible. Might not happen, but I didn't get any feeling about INS or NEM like this, and that was before both got panned and didn't do terribly well.

Re: Your Box office Predictions for Star Trek? (and box office trackin

A sequel could do that kind of business, but I think anything outside of the Batman Begins/Casino Royale/X-Men scale is extremely unlikely for this film.

Re: Your Box office Predictions for Star Trek? (and box office trackin

None that I can think of. This might be the very first one in the entire franchise to do so.

Re: Your Box office Predictions for Star Trek? (and box office trackin

I'll predict, and be happy with, a $50 Million opening weekend. I'm hoping it'll be more like 60 though..

Re: Your Box office Predictions for Star Trek? (and box office trackin

Apparently, the Movie Theaters in my area think Star Trek is going to to better than Wolverine... (at least in the first few days...)

Around here, only a Midnight showing on Thursday the 30th, is listed for Wolverine, whereas for Trek they all have at least two listings (if not three) for Thursday May 7th.

Course, it could be that Paramount is allowing earlier showings and Fox isn't.

A person I talked to at the service desk at the theater today said the same thing, all their Staff are expecting Star Trek to trounce all over Wolverine.

Our AMC is slathered with Trek promotional materials, it's everywhere from the hugh stand-ups down to stickers on the concession stand counters but, tickets aren't on sale yet.

China and overseas will help it top $800 million worldwide I think.

Even if it does open in China it will be limited due to the Chinese regime. $800 million no way and I doubt China has too many fans but I think in the likes of Japan & South Korea it should do well.

don't forget that star trek makes a ton of licensing and merchandising

Re: Your Box office Predictions for Star Trek? (and box office trackin

I've read the article about the anticipated openings on Wolverine and Star Trek. I think Wolverine will do what the last X-Men film did. Have a massive opening and then absolutely die at the box office the next week. X3 made more than half of its money in its first week then took a 70% plunge.

As for Star Trek, it's difficult to say. Adjusted for inflation, I have no doubt it'll be the highest grossing Trek to date. But it just doesn't draw what other big franchises do. That was the main reason I thought they were better off releasing the film during the less competative Christmas holiday.

Interesting to read this thread again - lots of people thinking it would make $50 million on opening weekend (in line with industry predictions of the time), a few people thinking it would make $75 million in it's first week...

Re: Your Box office Predictions for Star Trek? (and box office trackin

It will easily make the $215 million domestic I predicted for it unless there's a HUGE trailoff in the next two or three weeks. Which I hope doesn't happen. This movie rocks and deserves repeat viewings.

First WEEKEND... now for M-Th...

Re: What are your Box office Predictions for Star Trek?

Opening day/night will be the ONLY time this film makes any money of any respect. Otherwise, it'll make Paul Blart look like Dark Knight.

Nobody of any number is gonna go see this thing. Opening day/night, all the Trek fans will be lined up, clinging to the hope that somehow they'll be able to save this thing, but otherwise, it'll be a royal floppa-roppa.

Every time I've been in a theater where the trailers for Trek have been shown, the audience reactions range from light chuckles, to laughter, to outright groans. People who like Trek will see this thing. Other people will not.

Think about it... if someone has already had 40+ years to get into Trek, and never did, what could possibly make them want to see this? They're just not into Trek. Nothing will change their mind... for them, they like movies with raw, mindless, action, where lots of things go KA-BOOM, with hot cars, and hot women... in other words, movies like Transformers. For this audience, Trek is a series loved by chess-club geeks, who give strange hand signals... and they won't change their mind about it... if they could, they would have done so with ENT or one of the more recent films.

But, if they (Paramount) need to see the dismal box office returns to show them the grim reality, then so be it. Trek better hope to god no other movie opens the same day, otherwise the OTHER film will be the one that rakes in money.
LOL.

LOL.

Funny how all the naysayers are keeping quiet in light of Star Trek's apparent success at the boxoffice. :techman:

Actually, even though I would not be caught dead being seen in the theater, I am looking forward to renting the DVD. And with the dollar success of NuTrek, there should be even more nuTrek DVDs to rent in the future.

So the dollars this thing is raking in is a good thing.
