Your Box office Predictions for Star Trek? (and box office tracking)

Re: BoxOfficeProphets.com discusses Star Trek

EDIT: Completely OT, what did Ryan Reynolds do to piss off God? I mean on one hand he's fucking Scarlett Johanson but on the other, the motherfucker keeps starring in crappy movies when he's clearly more talented than that.

Maybe that was the tradeoff? And it's one that anyone would make in a SECOND. And hey, worst case, he gets paid a bunch for every shitty movie he's in, so what's the difference?

Shit, I'd do it. But then again I have a notoriously low moral fiber. I hold Ryan Fucking Reynolds to a higher standard ;)

Re: BoxOfficeProphets.com discusses Star Trek

Looks like they're calling for the same domestic box office I predicted...a little over $200 million. Seems to be the number I can't get out of my head.

Goddamn, them are quality problems! Where do I volunteer for that kind of life fail?

Re: BoxOfficeProphets.com discusses Star Trek

The Trek film that sold the most tickets is TMP, not IV. JJTrek will do pretty good I think but won't match the inflation adjusted numbers for TMP.

Re: BoxOfficeProphets.com discusses Star Trek

Since some of the other online box office tracking outfits are being duscussed in the "Box Office Predictions" thread, I'll merge this into that. Stand by...

Re: Your Box office Predictions for Star Trek? (and box office trackin

Here is another question - why all the concern over such large numbers...

If it for example, get 150 domestic and 60 international that should still be enough for a sequel... Why? Cause thats enough to A) continue the franchise via tv in the future. And B) Cause out of the 10 prior films all made a profit and most are considered profitable. C) A lot of the cost doesn't have to paid again for some while (no need to spend millions rewriting the series, ship redesign etc).

Except for nemesis, all the other movies have done remarkably well.

Instead, Paramount has counted on a loyal fanbase to repeatedly return to the theater to keep afloat indefinitely. It's because of this that while in actual dollars, only one of the films has earned $100 million, adjusting for inflation takes eight titles over that mark and even the second biggest bomb, The Final Frontier, is at $95 million. Only Insurrection is an out and out failure with the first Star Trek movie inflation-adjusting to $236 million and The Voyage Home inflation-adjusting to $208 million. In these terms, the upside for a new film is much larger. Using 2009 ticket price adjustment, there have been ticket sales of $150 million or more for five out of the ten Star Trek titles, the two previously mentioned as $200+ million earners plus First Contact, The Wrath of Khan and The Search for Spock. So, if we aren't arbitrary about actual dollars, there is cause for optimism about the potential box office here.

Re: Your Box office Predictions for Star Trek? (and box office trackin

I score out the Boxofficeprophets commentators as follows, based on their comments:

Positive (the film will do well)
Briody
Spiegel
Neutral (either the film will do ok or the film will do well but be SEEN as a failure, or just don''t know)
Simpson
Corcoran
Van Nest
Sulewski
Kilmer
Mumpower
Negative (the film will not do well)
Scott
Braden
Hollis

Make of it what you will.

Re: Your Box office Predictions for Star Trek? (and box office trackin

This film needs to do well for the franchise to continue

Re: Your Box office Predictions for Star Trek? (and box office trackin

Max Braden: Unlike my fellow Trek fan Joel, I should be interested in seeing this movie but I'm not. And I don't know anyone who wants to see it or hasn't said the trailers looked lousy.
Well I guess there is always this guy at the party.

Re: Your Box office Predictions for Star Trek? (and box office trackin

Heres a good online review doesn't go into spoilers but hints at a few things. Review

Has only 2 issues with movie.

In the article, there were 3 who shared that sentiment, and only 2 who were as unabashedly positive on the film. The rest were neutral.

Re: Your Box office Predictions for Star Trek? (and box office trackin

I think there's going to be a twelfth film no matter what this one does overall both domestic and worldwide, but I can almost guarantee that the NEXT film's box office is going to have to be boffo for the franchise to soldier onward after that future date.

Re: Your Box office Predictions for Star Trek? (and box office trackin

About a billion since it will open in China.

Re: Your Box office Predictions for Star Trek? (and box office trackin

China and overseas will help it top $800 million worldwide I think.

Prepare to be monumentally disappointed.

I think $800 million is within reach with all the overseas ticket sales that will likely continue in many countries long after the film is gone from U.S. and Canadian cineplexes.

Re: Your Box office Predictions for Star Trek? (and box office trackin

It would have to be one of the top 20 films of all time in terms of unadjusted worldwide box office to break $800m.
