Your annual vacation/holidays

As someone who has gone to Disneyworld every year for 20 years running:

it will NOT be a vacation...these days it takes military order organization,
And the number of STROLLERS will preclude any semblance to relaxation...

And never, NEVER go there in the last days of December...

A heads up....

It's NOT the same place we nostalgically remember...

Fair Warning

I tried to put together a trip for a few days for the two of us and ended up near tears once i calculates how much it will all cost.

It would be against union rules, but that's assuming the employees are unionized.

That's a good point. When we had unionized employees, supervisors were very strict about them working exactly their 8 hours, and taking their breaks. For the employees not in a union, there was not an expectation for them to stay late, but the supervisors certainly didn't complain if they did, as long as they didn't mark it as overtime.

Well he has asked what kind of stone I like ;)
I want this

Oh dear the website doesn't say how long it is. I imagine it'd go to my knuckle? Ooooh they've got 14k White Gold with topaz for $1500, and Platinum with blue topaz and natural ruby for just $3000, that's not too bad at all? When I get engaged I totally am getting this ring.

Oh dear @UncleRogi, obviously boldly where no woman has gone before?

that's actually reasonably priced for an engagement ring

Oh dear I just looked and google says Americans spend an average of like $6000 on engagement rings, I feel that's just so absurdly silly, I'd never accept anything like that. $3000 feels so very reasonable to me too?

Yes that's a lot. But it's a piece of jewelry you'll theoretically wear forever so you don't want to cheap out on it either.

When I got engaged the first time we were both young and didn't have much money. I told him if he spent more than $200 on it i wouldn't wear it. My boyfriend and i haven't talked about price but since we're both in our 30s with good jobs i think 2 or 3 thousand is reasonable

Oh no I so totally hear what you're saying. I feel I'd rather get something I really love and is special to me, instead of just buying something really expensive just for the sake of being expensive?

Ya know , if the meaning and commitment were to be judged enough, the
tab pull from a soda can would be enough, at least until later...

My $0.02 worth...

Congratulations to all Spring nuptials!

:)

We didn't have an engagement ring. We spent $1500 on matching white Gold bands,
Keltic Knot style, that I payed a year on, with no interest. We were more interested in
the connubial benefits, if you get my drift....:p

The diamond business is one of the biggest scams you can imagine. Diamonds are completely and totally artificially inflated in value. It has been since the DeBeers cartel managed to get a lock on the resources. Their monopoly has waned over time, but they still maintain the appearance of dominance. Ever heard of "blood diamonds"? The terrible conditions endured by the people who mine them... most suffer early deaths due to contamination and injuries. Even child labor has come into play. Even still... once it became possible to manufacture diamonds, their value should have dropped significantly. It has not. Because the robber-baron diamond companies are highly adept at creating an illusion of value.

What should be most valued is the setting. And I think everyone should abandon the diamond fiasco, substituting those stones with other precious ones like rubies, sapphires, etc.

Can I list ones in my dreams? There is no extra for holiday :)
A crystal clear beach or something near gorges with nice trails and horse back riding.

Tomorrow I'll start into my vacation. I'm not sure about the weather in Austria, though. There's going to be thunder and lightning on and off.....
