Young Spock versus Young Kirk

Ultramann

Lieutenant
Red Shirt
Was rewatching Stra Trek and somethng jumped out at me. Were the early years of Spock and Kirk supposed to coincide? If so I'm lost. Spock looks and acts a lot younger than Kirk, then Spock jumped to Commander in three years while Kirk is in the Academy. Apparently Starfleet has a pattern of jumping people into high ranks? Elucidate someone.

According to the "Spock's Birth" deleted scene, Spock's 3 years older than Kirk.

In the hearing after Kirk's Kobayshi Maru, the admiral says that Spock graduated 4 years previously. So there's another time jump between Spock telling the Vulcan Science Academy to suck it and Kirk chatting up Uhura at the shipyard bar.

I think the events are not meant to be concurrent. They are there to show the contrast in childhoods of Kirk and Spock and to foreshadow the character dilemmas in the rest of the movie.

Just saw the TAS episode "The Counter Clock Incident". Kirk regressed to a baby while Spock is probably a pre-schooler.
