"Yorktown: A Time to Heal" - Official thread for the Sulu fan film!

Re: "Yorktown: A Time to Heal" - Official thread for the Sulu fan film

Still no official date to give at the moment, but work on the FX shots for the klingon scenes has begun.

Here are a few more videos posted recently at www.yorktownfilm.com.

Stan Woo receiving the trophy for best Science Fiction film at the Hollywood Teen Film Festival (1984) for his first fan film (Yorktown: In Temporary Command). The Award was presented to the young filmmaker by actor Ernie Hudson (Ghostbusters). The success of this short student film lead to the making of Yorktown: A Time to Heal, starring George Takei and James Shigeta.

This next video aired on MTV in 1993 on the alt-rock show I.R.S. Records Presents The Cutting Edge. This humorous Trek video was filmed in September 1993, and served as an intro to a segment that appeared on their Halloween show. A young Stan Woo appears as Mr. Sulu in the video, and actor Joseph Kerezman as Mr. Chekov. The video was directed by Jonathan Dayton (Little Miss Sunshine).

Whatever happened to Yorktown: In Temporary Command?

Stan Woo has told me that he wants to wait until "A Time To Heal" is finished before he puts "In Temporary Command" online. ITC was a high school fan film, and he doesn't want people mistaking it for the Sulu fan film.

Yorktown currently has an Indiegogo campaign to help pay for its film transfer from 8mm, hopefully getting it closer to final release. They seem to be struggling to reach its very modest $$ goal.

This is one of the fan film projects I'm personally most looking forward to. If it's also one of yours, let's get the word out!

Very modest, and well worth chipping in for if you can.

Re: "Yorktown: A Time to Heal" - Official thread for the Sulu fan film

I have a policy of not donating to fan film crowd funding campaigns as I believe if you're playing with somebody else's IP, all costs should come out of the pockets of the producers. But I'm considering making an exception for this since a film transfer is an expense the other trek fan films being made don't have to go through.

Don't like that the perks jump from $50 to $500 though, I usually donate about $100 or $200 to original projects, but I ain't doing that for $50 perk (I know that's a bit selfish, but they have a perk system for a reason...)

Hi BrEnDoN,

I won't go into specifics about fundraiser stuff here, but I can tell you that the perks section has been updated :techman:

nice graphics on the container very TMP

Re: "Yorktown: A Time to Heal" - Official thread for the Sulu fan film

It was a hard struggle, but down to the wire Yorktown made its $$$ total and a bit more besides...

Hopefully this means that after almost 30 years, A Time To Heal may finally be broadcast in full!

Film transfer: A before and after comparison.

The footage from the new transfer shown below was actually transferred 30 years to the day from when it was originally filmed. We still need to do some color correction to the new transfer. The difference in clarity is very strong between the two.

Old transfer:

New transfer (July 2015):
Lighting and color still need to be adjusted. Still in it's raw state.

A question that may have already been answered: why is Sulu wearing full Commander's stripes when he was only a Lieutenant Commander in TMP?

He is wearing Lieutenant Commander rank in that picture. One stripe is thin, and the other is larger and wavy. Just hard to tell on the arm in that picture, but you can see it on the shoulder rank bar.
