Yet another re-watch - and what strikes me...

I love the tangents that this thread has gone off on.
I finished the rewatch a while ago.
I actually might watch some non-trek for my next rewatch.....Lost?

I actually highly recommend LOST. I made a deal with my wife... I'd watch LOST if she gave FARSCAPE a chance again. (It was the ONLY series I introduced her to that she didn't like at first. This was very early in our relationship, at a time when she was not into scifi, particularly shows with aliens. Over the years, I totally won that battle because she ended up, on her own, watching TNG, DS9, VGR, and ENT. This opened her up more to alien characters, so I thought the time was right to reintroduce because I will never introduce her to a series I wasn't at least 90 percent sure she would love.)

LOST is an excellent character drama, and they focus big on that. I was hesitant at first, because the idea that THAT many people survive a plane crash was past my point of suspension of disbelief. I won't spoil things, but I can tell you I was completely hooked after the 4th episode. (Each episode tends to focus solely on a single character, maybe 2. They spread that wealth around pretty well.)

While they did make the mythology of the series so large that the show almost collapsed under the weight of it, the character stuff more than made up for it.

I give the show, overall, an 8.5 to 9.0.

I waffle back and forth on TNG and DS9. Both series appeal to me for very different reasons. DS9 is darker and grittier than traditional Star Trek of the time and it was disliked by some fans because of it, but the Federation does not exist in a vacuum. As long as there are entities that are opposed to the Federation, DS, symbolically, must exist.
