YES! New Who to watch!!

You're right. I throw myself on the mercies of Rose Tyler, Lady Catherine and Reinette de Poisson!

Throw my mercies in there too, would ya'? (I call sloppy seconds)

Having just seen the ROTC/AOS 2 parter on BBCA the previous weekend, the "Cyber Leader" getup Lumic was put into was the same as this one, with the black and the visible brain. And I believe the OS Cyber Leader also had some black on his headpiece, if not the whole set of "earmuffs".
Probably the only way they can tell which one's in charge.

This pretty much, though I think the only time the CyberLeader earmuffs were black was in Revenge of the Cybermen. Since then its just been the 'handle' parts of the headpiece that were black.

Of course, it's been 20+ years since I've seen any classic Who, so I couldn't remember the specifics, just that there was some black up there on the "Leader".

I enjoyed Planet of the Dead immensely. I took it in the spirit of it being "a last bit of fun" before the serious work starts. That's what both Tennant and RTD have been saying about POTD. They never intended for it to be a huge story like Stolen Earth/Journey's End. It was a last chance for Tennant to play the lighter side of the Doctor. Based on what we're seeing and hearing regarding the final specials, they look like they're going to be pretty dark.

I'm still curious as to why all the hatred towards Michelle Ryan. Is it because of dislike of her Eastenders character? It can't be because of Bionic Woman - she was the only good part about that show (sorry Katee Sackhoff fans!). And lots of actors have flop series - Barrowman has had more than a few - and people don't hate them. And she was cool in Merlin and Steven Moffatt's Jekyll, too. I wonder if it's just a country-to-country thing. I'm sure Americans and we Canadians have actors we loathe who people in the UK look at and say "what's the problem"?

Someone should write an article about how DW's different audiences react differently to guest stars. For example, no one over here had ever heard of David Morrissey, but when he was announced for The Next Doctor a lot of people were pushing for him to be the actual 11th Doctor. Same with Paterson Joseph - never heard of the guy myself and only knew him from his appearance in Parting of the Ways. Everyone in the UK seemed to know who he was. That's why I think the casting of Matt Smith was genius, because he's a fresh slate no matter where you are. Remember the vitriol that was thrown around when Catherine Tate was cast as Donna, because of people's opinions of her that had been formed through other shows. I think they had no choice but to cast an unknown for the Doctor... (tangent ends).

I just don't think she's a very good actress. In my opinion, she was the weakest link in the otherwise excellent Jekyll. Gina Bellman upstaged her significantly.

And I've never watched Eastenders, so that has nothing to do with it.

I for one fall very deeply in lust with Lady Christina every time I watch "Planet of the Dead." But that's just me.

ETA:

Frickin' David Tennant. Since joining Doctor Who, onscreen, he's snogged Billie Piper, Sophia Myles, Freema Agyeman, Jessica Hynes, Kylie Minogue, and now Michelle Ryan! (And off-screen, Sophia Myles and Georgia Moffett!)

That guy is one lucky sonofabitch. ;)

Well I've posted my gripes abou the story, but Michelle Ryan wasn't one of them. My only complaint is that her character was a bit under developed, so she came off as rather generic. I could live with her popping up on the show again.

I still have to laugh though at all the fuss on the boards about the Doctor letting her get away with her crimes. "OMG, won't somebody think of the children?!" :)

The Doctor is one to talk about Christina having to pay for stealing the priceless cup; he's the one who took a hammer to the thing and bashed it. Surely that must be some sort of crime! :D

I'm British and I love Michelle Ryan!

Ok she isn't the greatest actress in the world but she's far better than some (who shall remain nameless) and while I have issues with POTD, she wasn't one of them. She's hot, she can act and she was wearing boots!

That said EMH is right, hot as she was in Jekyl, but once Gina Belman came to the fore...wow!

Agreed on all counts. It's a shame Gina Bellman is doing Leverage in the States...I'd love to have her in Doctor Who (well, I'd love to have her anywhere , but that's a whole 'nother topic)...!

What would have been priceless is if the police inspector had started reading the Doctor the riot act, only to have him hold up one finger, then pop into the Tardis and return a few seconds later with a complete set of original cups w/ matching plates.

Oh c'mon, like the story wasn't already OTT. :D
