Anyone a fan here?
Just started watching it I'm on episode 2x6 at the moment, I swear to god if it was not for the type writers and phones you would think it was set in modern day Britain.
Don't know why it makes me laugh because in parts I do believe this is how the country is run, so really it's quite depressing when you think about it.

How do you think Malcolm Tucker and Sir Humphrey Appleby would get along.

Malcolm Tucker? Great shades of ENTERPRISE!

I've watched the thick of it a couple times, and that never crossed my mind before.

Completely different worlds.

Although our system is different in the US it played well for me. Perhaps Yes Prime Minister is easier to follow. I've rented episodes after PBS stopped airing it.

One of the best and funniest shows ever made, IMO (and yet another show I really need to rewatch). Great cast, great characters, great writing...great everything, really. :D

I just recently saw Yes Minister for the first time. I'm afraid it didn't wow me. It was alright. And I do enjoy old Brit-coms.

Yes Minister & Yes Prime Minister are two of the most wonderfully, charmingly accurate satires ever. Love them both, and they taught me everything I needed to know about the world. No joke. Well, not much anyway. :D

As for comparing Malcolm Tucker and Sir Humphrey Appleby; there is no comparison. Sir Humphrey would (correctly) think Tucker a loud-mouthed ignorant oik who has got far too big for his boots.

I can't believe it translates well across the pond; so much of its humour is heavily reliant on very British constructs of society. There is a lot on the surface in terms of gags that I can see transferring across, but the social stuff is really rooted in British class structure.

I have this image in my head of the Sir Humphrey Appleby's of this world nearly having a heart attack when the Tuckers of this world started popping up.

I wonder if their are more Appleby's or Tuckers at the heart of government these day's.

I admit that the humor and production qualities take some getting used to...but it's well worth it. I'm not sure how easy it would be to get a friend interested, though.

I've just watched the first series for the first time myself. Really enjoying it. I remember hearing it was said (of both Yes Minister and Thick of it) that there must be an insider passing knowledge along to the writers because of how accurate they are.

One of the YM writers was an insider for some years.

What some here may not realise is that the show plays all over the world, even in other languages, and still works. Government foibles are Government foibles everywhere.

One of my favorite shows as well. A lot of it is based on fact because the writers actually got to interview some insiders. The episode about the "communications room" full of booze next door to the reception in the Arab country is based on an actual event.

I've watched the first series, then went on to Misfits, now on True Blood, going to go back to series 2 tomorrow I think.
