XBOX360 - Overheating still a problem?

I am still mightly p**** that MS wanted to charge me £70 to fix my old HDMIless 360 because it got 2 RROD instead of 3, that would have meant i would have paid £350 in total to have a working 360 with no HDMI and a 20gig HD.

So i just went for a second hand one becasue if its going to go belly up it wont matter if its new or not.

Still i must be mad.....

Yeah, they recently implemented the DRM switching tool to facilitate the transfer of DLC quickly - which is perfect because they don't support license transfers for people who got replacement Xboxes outside of Microsoft until now.

I got a new 360 a year ago (sold my first one) and I had no problem getting all my DLC back. Just had to download it all again.

I think it's a problem for people who live with other people or for people who don't always have their system online. Before the only way you could transfer your content over as to have a broken 360 repaired by MS and to go through their phone in service which required a 4-6 week wait.

This process was documented on CAG Foreplay, where the host's wife was pissed that she couldn't play Puzzle Quest because it was tied to the host's account and of course, she wanted the gamerscore point stuff for herself.

Ah... I always have my 360 online and tied to my account, so I guess I never dealt with that.

Somewhat off topic but related to the last few posts:

Re. downloadable content and DRM: It appears that Sony has a nasty regulation in place for the PS3 where downloadable videos are concerned. According to this ars technica article you can download the video content you paid for no more than twice - one time for the initial download and another time if you have to download again for whatever reason (you have to go through Sony to get the second download).

After that, that's it. I can't believe that this type of BS is accepted by law makers. But then, I assume there either totally behind the times on this or too buddy-buddy with lobby groups.

That's the thing with movies I guess, you can't really do something like games where you force the user to go online or whatever... and you also don't want people sharing the files easily.

We Europeans haven't been graced with the Playstation video store yet but I was under the impression that it allowed you to back up your downloaded videos on to external storage media while still locking the video to that specific Playstation 3.

iTunes allows you to play purchased videos and music on up to 5 PCs and unlimited iPhones, Apple TVs and iPods but it doesn't allow you to redownload your purchases.

^
I've only seen it on that one source. Hmm, I wonder if that's possible. I didn't sound like that to me from the article.
But maybe somebody here knows more about the issue.

Just did a bit more reading on this, looks like I'm wrong - you can't copy the videos to external storage.

If you have still the old one, just towel it and try to kill it?

Well i am just ebaying this one and will no doubt make my money back, plus I'm only selling it with 4 games and i will hang onto COD4 and Gears, and i just went out today and bought the new 60gig model for £169.99 with two free games.......I was missing my PGR4.

God damn you MS and your crack in a box...

^
Where did you see that offer? HMV has a pretty cool offer for the Elite (though it's £100 more): Elite + GTA IV + Halo 3 + WiFi connector for £269.

Gamestation......i got the new HDMI 60gig 360(Manufacturer date 28/7/2008) and two games........Halo 3 and lost odyssey, there were 5 games to pick from.

Not to shabby a deal.

Ok, went for it today since I was fed up waiting :D.

Got a 60 GB model with Force Unleashed. I tried it out for a bit today, and I'm really liking it so far. Really looking forward to getting more games in the near future.

As the apparent poster boy for X-Box problems (13 times its failed and been replaced), and with my huge headache last time of taking over 3 months to get it repaired, my last unit (#14) died 21 days ago and they still have yet to get me my shipping box to send it in.

I just have no frigging luck (and I absolutely love the games, unquestionably an awesome game library, and I love X-Box live, except when trying to transfer stuff from old unit to replacement which has gotten very, very old).

^^^well done, and at this stage there are some really fun games you can buy that are really really cheap, a few you really must get are....

PGR4.(Visually amazing racing game).
Crackdown(Spider man would get vertigo in this game)
Condemned(Horror CSI FPS that will have wondering whats waiting for you in that dark corner)
Tomb Raider legend(Lara's first outing on the next gen consoles)
Bioshock(You can fire bee's from your hands)

You should be able to get these for a song now on places like eBay or Amazon as they have been out a while now.

And that list hasn't even remotely scratched the surface.

That's one thing I noticed and which I think is great. Even titles that haven't been out that long such as Assassin's Creed can be had for a pretty decent price.

I'd like to a get a racer. So this one may just be it.

Crackdown(Spider man would get vertigo in this game)

Read about it and saw a video review. I'm not quite sure it appeals to me that much.

Condemned(Horror CSI FPS that will have wondering whats waiting for you in that dark corner)

I'm not really the horror shooter type, so this probably isn't for me.

Tomb Raider legend(Lara's first outing on the next gen consoles)
Bioshock(You can fire bee's from your hands)

These two are on my list.

I'll also definitely be getting GTA IV at some stage. I'll have to see which other games there are that appeal to me.
It's a pitty the Sonic game is supposed to be so crappy since I've really always liked Sonic the Hedgehog.

14 failed units just sounds crazy. I know the 360 suffers from major, major design deficiencies but 14 consecutive failures for one user sounds ridiculous. Do you place your 360 inside of an oven while playing it?

It's not that I don't believe you - I'm in the process of returning my THIRD consecutive replacement for a monitor I bought off Newegg (never buy a Hanns-G piece of shit). But 14 failures? Jeez... I'd have given up on the 360 LONG ago if anything like that had happened to me (never had an issue with mine, knock on wood).

You at least keep the console in a relatively well ventilated area, correct?
