Thanks to Good Old Games, the classic LucasArts games X-Wing and TIE Fighter will soon be getting digitally re-released:

Special downloadable versions of both X-Wing and Tie Fighter will soon be released on Good Old Games. They'll be $10 each.

For that price you're getting not just the special editions of the games (which had slightly higher resolutions and improved sound, as well all of both games' expansions), but more importantly they'll be editions of the games that will run on a modern PC without the need to tinker.

I've never played either game before, so they'll be new to me. Can't wait. :techman:

Also, according to the article, GoG will soon be selling other classic LucasArts games as well.

ETA: Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic, Indiana Jones and the Fate of Atlantis, The Secret of Monkey Island: Special Edition, and Sam & Max Hit the Road have also been made available today.

I'm so fucking there!

I've never played these games before. How do they compare to the Rogue Squadron series on the N64/Gamecube?

Filthy casual!

TIE Fighter is hard as shit. It is the hardest core of hardcore space combat games, unless you count stuff with Newtonian physics, since those are the most hardcore of all.

For much of the game, your ship has no shields. A single well-placed enemy shot can kill you. TIE pilots are expendable, after all. And even so, you'll be getting up close to take out capital ships and shielded Rebel fighters.

I may be slightly overselling it, but if you want a truly white knuckle space combat experience, I don't think I've ever played anything more harrowing than TIE Fighter.

From what I recall of Rogue Squadron, that game is like a Sunday stroll compared to this.

Hey I tried to buy these games... but I need help.. I added them to my cart but when I try to click "check out" the next screen says my cart is empty.

Please help!

Ooh, this'll be an upgrade; I think I only had the 1994 versions; bought a couple packages at Sam's Club back in the day; one was the Star wars games and one was stuff like Sam & Max...THROWBACK

(bonus; the Star Wars set also included the Making Magic behind-the-scenes CD-ROM.)

Now I have to see if I can get a Wiimote or the Wii U Pro Controller synced to my computer...

That reminds me; my old Gravis Gamepad is hanging out somewhere...can't even remember what kind of connection it uses :p

*HAPPY DANCE!!!*

I still have my TF CD lying around, but I've never been able to get it working properly. Pretty much everyone in my family (me, wife, 14yo son, 10yo daughter, 6yo son) is excited to be able to play it!
