X-MEN: FIRST CLASS (Casting, Rumors, Pics till release)

The costumes are one of the things that won me over. I hate it when comic book movies are too embarrassed to be comic book movies *caugh*darkknight*caugh*

The leather uniforms in the X-men movies were awesome but no good for comics which need to be colourful so that the characters are easily distinguishable.

I'm a bit confused by the movie timeline now though. So Beast is meant to be a bit younger than Xavier now and therefore much older than Cyclops and Jean? But isn't Emma Frost in this movie as well as the Wolverine prequel where she appeared to be the same age as Cyclops, who is clearly much younger than Xavier? Would be so nice if that means we can ignore Wolverine 1 from the movie canon!

I'm looking forward to this movie but I can't get overly excited because it's a distraction from the proper sequel to X-men 3 that I'd prefer to see.

The third movie established Beast had a history with the team and was around during the time Cyclops, Jean, and Storm were there. They never specified that he was that old but you can get away with it more because of his appearance. Mystique is supposed to be very old.

Let's just ignore the whole Wolverine Origin business. I know I do.

^Yeah, at this point I'm assuming that they're just acting like WO never happened. So my question is... what does that mean for the sequel (to WO)? Will it also ignore WO, or are we gonna just have to send the Wolverine movies off into their own alternate reality?

Considering the movie ends with Wolverine having amnesia, I'd say it's gonna be pretty easy to ignore it.

Emma wasn't Emma Frost in XMO: W, she was just called Emma and had diamond powers. different character, similar name and powers. not like THAT hasn't happened in comics...

^ Nope, the teleporting guy in the trailers is Azazel, who is Nightcrawler's father. The movie also has Mystique, who is Nightcrawler's mother. I wonder if they will allude to this somehow. Maybe the two of them hooking up by movie's end.

Even though Wolverine was a pretty terrible movie, I do appreciate how the X-films are trying to stay within the same fictional universe when they could have easily rebooted and/or just spun off and ignored everything else.

That said, I realize that First Class probably won't line up exactly with the previous trilogy (Singer using his infamous "vague continuity" line to explain away any differences), but I get the feeling it will be "close enough".

In the video review I saw, the commentators said First Class actually largely fits into the continutity with the original films. They said their might be a few nitpicks for hardcore folks, or if they do a second or third movie it will become tougher, but what they did did for the most part fit, or small changes were acceptable once you got into the movie.

There's a new photo gallery at EW now

Early word on First Class is promising.

Though full reviews won't be coming out until later this week (mine will hopefully be up before the weekend), early word on "X-Men: First Class" is that it may not only be the best in the franchise, but the best Marvel movie to date.
Drew McWeeny of Hitfix has been very outspoken of Fox's handling of the franchise in the past, and with good reason. Here though, he says "I am happier overall with "X-Men: First Class" than with any other film released so far in the "X-Men" franchise… This is ground zero, and I think Fox just got it right, really right, in a way I can't say it feels like they have on any of their Marvel films so far." He also professes his love for all things Michael Fassbender - sigh, I know that feeling all too well.
......

Good, Great, Excellent!!

Hope this is the start of a trend.
