Namor was Namor was before many here were born.
Superheros not having codenames or ones that matched their powers have been around just as long.
Forgive me, I just guess what you see as lame I see as creative.
Too each his own.
I just don't see the reason for limitation in a book who's theme was diversity.

Nope, he was the Sub-Mariner. Namor is his given name. His strip was called the Sub-Mariner. His solo book was the Sub-Mariner. Characters in his books ( and others) called him the Sub-Mariner. Only recently have they've been using Namor as his book's title and downplayed the Sub-Mariner name.
I see nothing creative about "cool" names that are meaningless.
That Mystique trailer was great. I loved the moment between Erik and Raven in the weight room. What an awesome, subtle moment.

I don't go to the X-Men film's for the visuals, or an abundance of style.. even though in the correct dosages these factors could work.
No, I go for the characters, the dilemmas, the issues, and the relationships. It is the thread that binds all the films, even the weaker entries, together.
Also the clip brings to mind Erik's need for a mutant to embrace what makes them different regardless of whether they fit in or not.
Has me thinking that Charles and Erik really differ on the subtleties of teaching, and makes for a really cool divergence. I love these characters.

It's pretty simple really. When someone says "Bishop," one is reminded of Aliens, which is cool. Therefore, "Bishop" is cool.
what kind of name is Sauron, Shatterstar, Gideon?
Sauron is derived from Sauropod which decribes Lizard-hipped dinosaurs.
Shatterstar I don't think it means anything but I can't be sure, I barely remember his origin.
Gideon means "mighty warrior".
BTW, Cable means link or thread that holds things together. As he is a link to the past & well as the future and links certain X-Men & villains destinys together.

Well judging from that character study promo, he couldn't really control his powers. And appears to be the only one of that roster who can shoot energy discs and beams of destruction. Plus maybe he'll be the hothead of the bunch, next to Banshee.

When Lykos takes the name "Sauron" he specifically mentions Lord of Rings. (In one of the first X-Men comics I read) He's also a Pteranodon ("were-Pteranodon"?) which isnt a dinosaur.
The whole hypno eye thing might be a reason he chose "Sauron". Havok refers to the destructive nature of Alex's powers. He didn't have a personality the made one think "havok" when first introduced.
"Cyclops" doesn't even make any sense unless Scott Summers has only one eye. The only reason he's called that is because his visor makes him look one-eyed.
Really, people read way too much into codenames/superhero names. Most of the time they're just picked because they sound cool and I'm fine with that.

It's true that Alex always had a hard time controlling his power, and it is immensely destructive.

As you mentioned., It goes with his appearence in costume.
They're picked ( well usually) because they represent something about the characters appearence (like Cyclops) or abilities (Like Iceman) Coolness isn't always a factor. "Cyclops" is not a cool name. "Green Lantern" isn't all that cool either.
