Still think Deborah Ann Woll (Jessica from True Blood) would be an awesome young Jean Grey.
Nothing was wrong with Famke Jenssen. I blame the films constructed and focused around Wolverine thus taking away importance and screen time from the other characters. James Marsters is a fine actor too by the way.
Marsden. Marsters was Spike on Buffy or BrainIAC on smallville. I think he's in his 50s now too.

I still sometimes have to think a bit to keep James Marsters, James Marsden, and Jason Marsden straight.
I was pretty surprised as well. I was told from someone who read one of the drafts of the script (he told me it changes constantly) that the film doesn't even seem like a prequel... but more like a reboot and not as closely tied into Singer's films as he had thought, which in turn surprised him since Singer wrote the treatment the scripts have been based off of.
Well understandably fans and people in this very thread have thought that this film is a reboot of the film franchise and it's not hard to see why despite comments given to the contrary. I wouldn't be shocked if the current version of the script rarely resembles Jamie Moss's original script of Singer's treatment.
It'll be a prequel, but don't expect tons of references or cameos that link back to Singer's movies. It'll be surprisingly fresh. The script has been re-written so many times with so many writers (the Hero Complex article listed six in total).

Let's just call it partial prequel/reboot.
Let's see Josh Schwartz did the first draft which was based on the actual First Class comic, then Jaime Moss wrote the draft of Bryan Singer's treatment, then Thor writers Ashely Miller and Zack Stenz re-wrote the script before finally Matthew Vaughn was hired to direct and brought Jane Goldman so that would be six.
He compared it in style to "Star Trek" which doesn't mean that it will be a reboot but I suspect he was talking about what JJ did in restructuring and fusing new energy into the franchise.

Basically it just means that filmmakers like to compare their projects to other successful films, especially recent ones.
^ Yep. It's like the recent comments from Star Trek producer Bryan Buryk who compared the forthcoming Star Trek sequel to "The Dark Knight". He was using that as means to describe what they have planned in the sequel. It'll be a prequel that resembles a reboot because it will have unexplored elements we've not seen yet. Still though it better at least have Jean in it.
^I really don't think Vaughn was primarily talking about whether it was a reboot or not. That kind of continuity question is not the overriding concern for the majority of the moviegoing audience. I think what he was referring to was more on the level of style and approach -- taking something familiar and established and creating a prequel that had a fresh voice and attitude, something that recast the characters with younger actors and breathed new life into them, while still retaining the essential qualities of the original. To filmmakers and studios concerned with profit, and to the general mass of moviegoers concerned with being entertained and watching actors they like, the question of whether it's in the same continuity or reality or timeline or whatever is not a particularly important one.

Well production starts in a month so they still have time for more casting...for some reason though I can't shake the feeling the casting is done. This could still be a good movie without Jean...will be eager to see a trailer. Without my favorite character though i dunno if I'll be that enthused.
I think it's a little light on the females so far. It's just Mystique, Emma Frost and Moira McTaggart. Needs more Jean, Storm and either Dazzler or Betsy Braddock. But if Shaw and Emma are in, a young Jean should be too right? Maybe they'll kind of play off that flashback from X3 when Xavier first met her.
