X-MEN: FIRST CLASS (Casting, Rumors, Pics till release)

Well, the original team was made back in the 60s. Of course they were all going to be white males...

Hell, Storm was the only black one for years and Thunderbird was quickly killed off. The team didn't get more ethnic until the 90s and 2000s...
Oh, I understand that. It makes sense. But, equally, I can't imagine modern versions of the team going with that, for that reason. And it frankly doesn't matter all that much; the original five in the comics don't have any real significance in terms of the later incarnations of the team, as a group. Only Cyclops' place as Xavier's #1 recruit really any plot/character significance.

At a minimum, expect to have Storm on the team (which really works fine with her backstory; you just have Xavier actually retrieve her from Cairo as a kid; the only reason that didn't happen in the comics is that the established history prohibited it).
Holy shit, you were being serious...

Hell, Scott being the first X-Man doesn't even have to be set in stone. I remember in X-Men EVO they had Wolverine and Storm as members before Scott, and this actually benefited him as a character since he wasn't shackled as the "Designated Leader" guy anymore. Plus it kept Logan in the background.

The sad thing is, every single adaptation of Scott continually leaves out the really interesting back-history he had before Xavier: How he was experimented and brainwashed on by Mr. Sinister, how he escaped and ended up as the sidekick to a mutant supervillain. How Sinister keeps coming after Scott either with the brainwashing or for further experiments.

All that stuff would make for a great movie character version if they were willing to bring any of it up.

They haven't completely lost their chance. If Singer wants to return to the franchise, as long as he can keep the suits with the reboot stick at bay, it is entirely possible for Cyclops' origin to feature as part of the plot, particularly if they want to milk the potential for Cable in a futuristic spin off.

I really want them to do another trilogy (with a new cast if necessary).

Part one Marauders Massacre to take out Kitty, Colossus, Angel, and Nightcrawler (although Crawler was already bumped so if he's left out again nobody would notice) to make way for some new characters (Dazzler, Psylocke, and Havok in the original comics - later followed by Longshot - although I'd be happy if they left him out given his complex back story). It also introduces Sinsiter as their boss and possibly Gambit as a pawn in Sinster's game. Scrambler could even reboot Rogue's powers and lead to her absorbing Ms Marvel type powers from someone she is trying to rescue. Finale can be British Psylocke takes on Sabretooth to protect the wounded and is saved by Wolverine who keeps him occupied long enough for her to obtain information to try and track Sinister down - maybe to the Orphanage where Cyclops grew up?

Part Two can deal with trying to track Sinster, Apocalypse revealing himself, the Four Horsemen, and Angel's conversion to the Angel of Death. The B plot could be the recuperation of the injured on Muir Island revealing that Xavier isn't dead.

Part three can deal with Sinister's desire to use the product of Scott and Jean's genes as Apoalypse's new host body (where it can be revealed that Scott wasn't killed by Jean and either that Phoenix was a psychic projection or that she has been cloned as Madeline Pryor). Cable comes back from the future to save himself and at the end takes the baby to fight Apocalypse in the future ready for the next spin off. They mght even be able to work in the transformation of Psylocke into her asian ninja form.

You can even switch parts two and three around and have a finale where Xavier returns to take down Apocalypse.

X4 hasn't been ruled out yet and Wolverine 2 is still happening but probably both have put on hold in favor of First Class which will probably be a trilogy it's self. So Kevin Bacon is Sebastian Shaw and we still don't have Jean or Storm yet. As the casting continues to unfold I can't help but think we'll get some kind of intriging mesh between Ultimate X-Men and 616 X-Men's origin combined with Singer's original treatment.

Yeah thanks for posting that...I was gonna get around to it eventually. With a month left to production start we've still not had Storm or Jean cast yet which makes me worried they might not be in this at all. Storm isn't a necessity for me but Jean sure as hell is.

^Can't see how they'd leave her out. Anyway, bear in mind that Jackman was cast late in the day for the original X-movie, so there is kind of a precedent here.

I've been told that none of the original X-Men besides Beast appear in First Class. The film really focuses on Xavier, Magneto and Shaw (Kevin Bacon) and Fox and the filmmakers are saving Cyclops, Jean Grey, etc. for sequels.

Interesting and would indeed confirm your original suspicion that we would indeed be getting a trilogy out of this. I'm going to proceed with caution where First Class is concerned and wait for the trailer.

Well, not exactly, because Jackman was a last-minute replacement for Dougray Scott, who was originally cast in the role. So it's not as if the character remained completely uncast until late in the game.

Whoa, interesting. I couldn't imagine an X-Men project without those those two. Even though they're not technically original's Logan and Ororo I get, but Scott and Jean, really? Crazy. Just like Nolan, I've liked pretty much enjoyed everything Vaughn's directed thus far, so still optimistic.

I have a feeling this movie should might as well be called "X-Men:First Class Part One" lol since I think it'll end with Xavier's school forming and perhaps we'll see Scott and Jean at the end of the film as young children.

I think those expecting Cyclops to just blast everything and the rest of the teens to go wild.

Sounds like there will be a few Xavier mind attacks and that's it.

^ Yes this is my chief concern. I'm a big Matthew Vaughn fan and I have confidence with Singer's treatment and Goldman's writing ability. I'm afraid this movie will suffer from cameo-itis like Wolverine did.

I just had a vision of Comic Con next year. Grainy footage of three claw indentations in a concert pillar is leaked

"WHOOOOOOOOA!!!!!!!!!!!!

"OMGOMGOMG they showed claws!"

*Applause*

Well comingsoon.net did have an article a couple weeks ago on Singer wanting to get Taylor Lautner as Wolverine which wouldn't make much sense since we've already seen Hugh Jackman as a younger version of the character. I guess then that Hank McCoy has the distinction of being Charles first recruit in the movie universe which is possibly why Charles welcomes Hank so warmly in X3.

The problem was that the actors chosen for Cyclops and Jean in the original movies weren't that good compared to Patrick Stewart, Sir Ian and Hugh Jackman. If Singer bothered getting better actors, he'd have been more easily convinced to make a Cyclops story instead of a Wolverine story.
