X-MEN: FIRST CLASS (Casting, Rumors, Pics till release)

Emma was originally an American from Boston, and she retained an American accent in the 90s Fox cartoon.
I'm picturing Emma talking with the accent Julianne Moore uses on 30 Rock;)

Hmm, I didn't know Cedric Smith was English. I figured he was Canadian like the rest of that cast, since I've seen him in one or two Vancouver-made shows. I guess he was born in England but lived in Vancouver by that point. Hmm, yeah, Wikipedia says he's lived in Canada since he was 10, so it might be a stretch to call him English. (Oh, and Wikipedia says that at one point he was married to Catherine Disher, who played Jean Grey. That's a bit creepy...)
Hey, the Prof had the hots for Jean in at least one panel back in the 60s.

Cedric was married to Catherine Disher while the 90s show was on. They even have a son together (I still don't get why guys in their 50s are having kids...).

I do remember how his "Xavier screams" were some of the shows' funniest moments.

But yes, Xavier did have the hots for Jean in the original comics (until Stan Lee realized what a horrible idea this was).

Cedric wasn't the only one from the UK who did voices in the show: Cal Dodd (Wolverine) is Irish, and Nigel Bennett (Prince from LEXX) voiced Mastermind/Jason Wyngarde in the Dark Phoenix saga.

I did like how they condensed the Weapon X backstory in a much more sensible way than the comics ("Weapons X, Lies and Videotape") even though that story also messed with the other "Wolverine's past" stories we had ("Red Dawn", "Repo Man", "Out of the Past"). But then again they all messed with one another...

Heh, I remember one guy who saw X2 watched the Weapon X episode in "X-Men Evolution" and saw the Professor (the bald dude with glasses) commenting "Whoa, Stryker really looks creepy in this show".

Charles's feelings for Jean were exposed during the Onslaught storyline and in Ultimate X-Men as well. Alice Eve as Emma Frost is something I can get behind. I would have been psyched for Rosamund Pike but Alice Eve is even better.

On the topic of Xavier's age:

The X-Men made their debut in 1963, and some of the earliest issues mentioned that Xavier was a Korean War veteran. Assuming he was of typical drafting age (late teens/early twenties), he could have been as young as 30 in issue #1. However, with Marvel's sliding timescale, he would probably be a Gulf War I vet now, making him as young as his late 30's in the present day.

What confuses the matter is Magneto, who has been placed in the Holocaust much more firmly than Xavier was placed in Korea. If people feel the need for the two men to be close in age, we have a problem.

BTW, early issues of the FF place Reed and Ben in WWII, right around the time that Xavier was being established as a Korean War vet. Firmly establishing an historical setting for ageless characters is prolly a bad idea, unless you also establish that their very nature causes them to age more slowly than normal folks do. ;)

Wasn't Erik also deaged in a storyline???

Yes, the alien known as The Stranger reduced him to infancy and he re-grew into adulthood in just a few years. Also, it's worth noting that Xavier died in Uncanny #200 and was cloned by the Shi'Ar, with his astral form downloaded into the new body. Technically, both Chuck and Erik are much younger than their birth certificates say.

Magneto has been de-aged like 3 times so far. First by the Alpha mutant he created (to infancy), then Erik the Red made him an adult again (about 30 years old). Then he got deaged again (or at least re-energized) by the Earth's Magnetic fields after Holocaust destroyed Asteroid M.

Finally, he was de-aged to a guy in his twenties or so by the High Evolutionary.

The movies made him the right age if he was never de-aged.

Well given that they took some liberties with certain characters in the past, we can probably let this age one slide. Just so long they weren't childhood buddies in the sandbox with a rather rotund Cain Marko seen as a bully.

I'd be okay if they dropped Juggernaut's relationship with Xavier totally, he's not good enough as a villain on his own, his mystical powers don't fit the X-Verse and mutations, and what kind of Father is horrid enough to name his son "Cain"?!

http://www.latinoreview.com/news/ex...role-of-banshee-in-x-men-first-class-is-10339

Earlier today it was reported that Alice Eve was in negotiations to play Emma Frost in "X-Men: First Class." Well, I can't let Mike Fleming have all the fun.

According to my trusted sources, I hear that Caleb Landry Jones is the top contender to bag the role of Sean Cassidy aka BANSHEE.

Who?

The kid on the bike in No Country For Old Men. Still not familiar?

Jones did a stint on "FRIDAY NIGHT LIGHTS" and is in the upcoming film "THE LAST EXORCISM."

According to Wikipedia, An Irish mutant, Banshee possesses a "sonic scream," capable of harming enemies’ auditory systems and causing physical vibrations. He is named after the banshee, a legendary ghost from Irish mythology, said to possess a powerful cry, although the banshee spirit is invariably female.

Expect to hear more casting news as production on the film is slated to start in August.

Hasta el proximo capitulo...

hmm i was thinking Banshee would be a little bit older, but oh well.

Banshee?

Sweet. :techman:

Banshee's been one my favourite mutants since Generation-X. Shame about what they did to him afterwards. :(

Though I would have hoped he'd be an older character like in the comics, maybe somehow fitting in his interpol agent or New York cop backstory, at least he's finally appearing.

The young mutant lineup in this film is starting to look interesting. I just hope they don't cram too many into the plot, and the director knows how to handle an ensemble cast. Colour me hopeful. :bolian:

Same, I figured he would be older (played by Robert Carlyle or Henry Ian Cusick) and part of a former group yet back as a mentor of sorts to the students, but considering this IS the First Class, that wouldn't make any sense. We could just very well see an X-Men UK roster after all, but who knows.

I wonder, have the comics retconned the New York-born Charles Xavier into an Englishman yet? He's been English in both of the post-Patrick-Stewart animated series, and apparently in First Class he's now Scottish.

McAvoy does a pretty convincing English accent (to my Irish ears, anyway). Though I wonder if he'll be attempting a Patrick Stewart impersonation.

Shame they couldn't have gotten an Irish actor to play Banshee. The number of US actors to do a convincing Irish accent can be counted on the fingers of one hand. Assuming that that hand had lost all its fingers in a tragic accident.

 Good one.

But considering how Chris Claremont wrote dialects, would a realistic Irish accent be authentic to the character? :D

True. I must admit, the character always annoyed the crap out of me. I mean, apart from anything else, a Banshee was meant to be female in mythology - the first part of the name comes from the word Bean (pronounced Bann), meaning woman.
