X-MEN: FIRST CLASS (Casting, Rumors, Pics till release)

I have an idea of how I would reboot the X-Men with a brand new cohesive arc and maybe I'll post it one day. It would feature three villains for each movie and each film would increase the amount of danger and intensity while still framed around a core arch for the characters. The trilogy is more heavily influenced from the 616 universe than the Ultimate one but with a few twists and turns of my own. The first film would be about the original team we all know and love and move onwards from there.

I should clarify...the first X-Men film would be a traditional origin film but structured kind of like "Sherlock Holmes" or "Batman Begins" and the villain/s would be Magneto and his Brotherhood of Mutants. Scarlet Witch and Pietro would be Brotherhood members.

^How was TWOK's Spock "back to the conflicted half-breed of TOS"? On the contrary, Spock's portrayal in TWOK was a logical progression from his epiphany in TMP -- no longer conflicted, but serene, secure, not afraid to express his feelings of friendship quite openly.

Anyway, a recasting of Beast is understandable, but I consider it tragic that Kelsey Grammer won't get to play the role more than once. I still consider George Buza's Beast from the '90s animated series to be the definitive interpretation of the character, but aside from him, Grammer was the best casting choice imaginable.

Never really thought about that with Spock but you are right. He's considerable less reserved emotionally from TWOK on.

Agreed on Beast. When I first hear that Grammer had been casted, I was like "Huh?" and then a second later I realized he was a perfect bit of casting. Tall physical man with a commanding voice who has made a career out of playing an intellectual.

"I told you some time ago — exclusively–that Michael Fassbender, hot as a pistol, had to choose between roles in the new “X Men” and “Spider Man.” I am told he has made his choice, and will appear in “X Men: First Class.” James McAvoy and Benjamin Walker are also cast in Matthew Vaughn’s upcoming blockbuster. All this news makes me want to see this movie before it’s even made!…
….Jake Paltrow, blue eyed younger brother of Gwyneth, has a secret. Shhhh. Paltrow, an accomplished director, is making a hush hush secret documentary with “Fantastic Mr. Fox” writer-director Noah Baumbach. They’re shooting in Los Angeles this week, after having shot in New York. Paltrow was spotted by yours truly this week at LAX touting a camera tripod off the baggage carousel. He won’t say what the film is about, or even if it’s got a script or a narrator. And what about big Sis, since I know you wanted me to ask? Sad for the tabloids, lovely Gwyneth is still married, living in London, raising her kids. She is not working this summer. That’s all I got! I tried!…Hey–rent Noah’s film, “Mr. Jealousy.” It’s a little gem…
…Bruce Springsteen is a closet Liza Minnelli fan. Well, he knows good showmanship and a set of pipes. So and the family stopped in backstage at the Paramount Theatre in Asbury Park last week to wish Liza well on her forthcoming album, “Confessions.” and her national tour…
“As the World Turns” wraps 54 golden years this week as the Cadillac of soaps. This means after over five decades, Procter & Gamble has at last exited the world of daytime dramas. What a pity: P&G never respected its shows, and in the 1990s determined to get out of the business altogether. Many generations grew up on “As the World Turns,” “Edge of Night,” “Search for Tomorrow,” “Another World,” “Guiding Light,” and “The Secret Storm.” The shows ranged from the ridiculous to the sublime, and often represented the best acting, directing, and writing in New York. The word is that “World Turns” will air its last week of shows in September with a whimper. I hope this is not true. Everyone deserves better."

Looks like we have the 2 leads filled.

I'm liking the casting so far...I'm really curious about who they will select as Jean Grey since as I've stated before she's my favorite X-Men.

Since Emma was Scott's age in Origins, and they seemed to be together, perhaps we'll have a Jean/Emma/Scott triangle for these movies?

^ That's what I fear but it could work. @Obi-Wan Shinobi *goes to look up Deborah Ann Woll* I've been thinking about Annalise Van Der Poll from "That's So Raven" she has Jean's look but not sure if she could handle the acting part of the roll.

Just looked up Deborah Ann Woll and yeah she'd work nicely :)

Alice Eve is apparently going to play Emma Frost.

Eve is actually 28-years-old so its curious how Frost is going to be played in the production. Is she equal in experience to Xavier's students as she is in the comic universe or is she a contemporary of the major mutant powers? Curious and curiouser. Eve is best known to moviegoers for her role as Molly in "She's Out of My League" and as Erin-go-bra-less in "Sex and the City 2." The new picture reunites Eve and McAvoy who starred together in the charming Brit comedy "Starter for 10."
I haven't seen Eve in anything yet so I have no idea if she can act, but she looks right for the role.

Huh, well they can't seem to make up their mind over whether Emma is supposed to be British or American in the comics so I guess they settled on Evil Brit.

She physically looks the part, though Julie Benz or January Jones may have been better for the older Emma.

In my mind, I've always imagined Emma with Olivia d'Abo's voice, i.e. English. As it turns out, Kari Wahlgren's Emma from Wolverine and the X-Men is rather close to what I imagined, though her voice isn't as sexy as d'Abo's.

I wonder, have the comics retconned the New York-born Charles Xavier into an Englishman yet? He's been English in both of the post-Patrick-Stewart animated series, and apparently in First Class he's now Scottish.

Emma was originally an American from Boston, and she retained an American accent in the 90s Fox cartoon. Grant Morrison made her British because he assumed she WAS British (since she was based off of Emma Peel from the Avengers).

The funny thing about Xavier was that in the 90s show where he had a perfect Westchester County Accent even though the Voice Actor was English. So he's been played by an Englishman years before Patrick Stewart, but that Englishman gave him the right American accent.

I didn't remember that she was in that cartoon. Oh, wait, there was a White Queen in the "Inner Circle" (since they couldn't say "Hellfire Club" in a cartoon), wasn't there? I sometimes forget that the White Queen was Emma.

Hmm, I didn't know Cedric Smith was English. I figured he was Canadian like the rest of that cast, since I've seen him in one or two Vancouver-made shows. I guess he was born in England but lived in Vancouver by that point. Hmm, yeah, Wikipedia says he's lived in Canada since he was 10, so it might be a stretch to call him English. (Oh, and Wikipedia says that at one point he was married to Catherine Disher, who played Jean Grey. That's a bit creepy...)
