X-Men FC: Only $56 Million estimated for opening weekend.

^ And truly in this recession, I'd wipe that extra 30 mil and add the praise and just call First Class on par with Wolverine. Even if ticket prices are higher, less people can afford to go to the movies repeatedly. And really, please let's not have someone respond and tell my I stupid for saying that. Houses are easily worth 30k less or more than they were a few years ago, so frankly, I think we can look at the box office the same way. Overall, money and praise and First Class is a win for Fox. This film is not going to lose them any dough even if it earns less than the previous films. Does that make sense. It can only grow in dollar signs for them in continued box office and video release and merchandise if they ever get on the damn ball.

I really do think "The Last Stand" and "X-Men Origins: Wolverine" put a bad taste in a lot fans mouths.

It did (bad taste) but the positive buzz for FC got my ass in the seat and I'm glad it did. Even the wife stayed awake during the film!

HA!

Anti 3d?

Really?

Film evolved.

The X-Men franchise is against evolution.

Destroy the mutant 3d film empire to preserve the decent 2d way of life for normal movies everywhere.

Fuck-me.

Thank you ObiWan. I don't think 3D is evolution of film like uh, let's see, sound or color. It is just an excuse to make more money whilst destroying the integrity of film. Avatar looked cool, had a joke of a story. For all its visual depth, the players were decidedly two dimensional. Guy is always so angry! :p

Have you read X-Men comics?

I thought I was channelling the feared and hated outcast mutants rabble being chased by villages with torches for being different if not "better".

The movies theme is contrapractice to it's actions.

The producer and director seem to be onside with the humans trying to execute all the mutants.

That's hilarious.

But angry?

Yeah, that's a fair cop.

I think you have good points, but to be fair, the recession had already been going on awhile when XO: Wolverine was released.

No don't read the comics, so your wit is lost on me :)

Yes, I know money was still tight even then, and it is only going to get tighter. I think they should be pleased that this film has done as well as it has, and based their notions for a sequel on the critical acclaim instead. Imagine if this gets some technical nominations or really gets crazy come the DVD.

It's possible the movie will also do well in DVD Sales/rentals. I know I, for one, will buy this movie on DVD and still have to second-guess myself on renting X3 or Wolverine.

Agreed. I know sometimes even popular movies have really quick cinema to video turnarounds, a few months in the extreme it seems. However, I wonder what would happen if video and theater releases were out at the same time? Would that be a way to hamper piracy, by offering your legitimate at home viewing early? The prices are about the same for two at the movies and a blu-ray nowadays anyway. I'm waiting for the Jane Eyre DVD in August now, $40 for the blu-ray, geez these limited releases!

If that's your family sure.

I have two nephews a niece and a son. They all want ice cream and they all want popcorn.

The movie theatre is an unthinkable deathtrap.

Yeah if I go early in the day I don't get any food simply because the person that is doing the tickets, sweeping the floor, and handling the concession stand are all one girl. I can't imagine a family night out at the movies anymore. See my hypothetical video at the same time as theater would appeal to big families who don't go to the cinemas. I miss $4 matinees with popcorn included.

I don't suppose the price will ever go down again if the attendance numbers really get desperate?

Woot First Class and Hangover 2 are playing together at my hometown drive-in. Oh that is tempting! Maybe that will convince my husband?!

If you're willing to wait 1-2 months or so after the origional release, I do know of a theater that sells tickets for as low as $3.50 (not including popcorn).

Movie prices have outpaced inflation.

We've been in a recession for over 20 years.

Inflation is getting to the point that they need to revalue the dollar.

Which would mean recolouring the bastard too.

But in ten years, you could be working for 30 cents an hour and the movies cost 7 cents a head.

i honestly can't remember the last time i bought food at the theater. over ten years i'm sure. its just too expensive.

I agree supply and demand no longer exists in the face of inflation. It sucks that someone at the top can just say this price is going up because I said so, and we all have to go along with it.

No, buck the system! :p I remember buying hockey stuff in Canada for half the price. A few years ago when we went you could interchange and exchange Canadian and American money evenly. At first it was kind of neat, but then it just made me a little sad. Sniff.

You know, today I asked my husband a very serious question and he didn't really have an answer. Do you think America as we know it will see 250 years? It took 1,000 years for the Republic of Venice and the unification of Italy for my ancestors to come to America, and now after 100 years, we are seriously considering going back to the Old Country. Such a short time!

Ah, this is what good thought provoking but no less entertaining films help us forget. Damn I have to see First Class again now tomorrow! :)

When my friend and I go to the theater, we spent $10.50 in total. The first showing matinee is $5.25 and we do NOT eat there.

When we took my three nephews to see Kung Fu Panda 2 in 3D with food... we spent SIXTY DOLLARS of my sister's money

BTW guys and girls, at Best Buy right now (sale probably ends Friday) you can buy all 4 X-Men movies on Blu Ray for $8 each and they each come with a free ticket to see First Class. This is an amazing deal and I am super pissed I didn't know about this before I saw the damn movie! :p
