Except Singer never did that. Stop trying to imply he would go along with that moronic writing.

He actually reversed many of those events with the timeline reset in DOFP.

How is it moronic to kill off Xavier and Magneto? The comics worked just fine without them, it just means the movies would have to give the other characters who never got much to do...more to do.

The kill-off/depowering list is a wee bit longer: Prof X., Jean, Cykes (made him a complete wuss...), Rogue (when the last two movies sent her on a path to empowerment), Mystique and Magneto. Oh, and Bobby Drake being a cheating bastard. The list goes on... This movie is a series of mis-characterizations one after the other.

Cykes was wasted the entire series, Rogue's decision kind of made sense given how she really wasn't learning how to control her powers, Magneto was ALWAYS the way he was in X3, Mystique...well she got sold out by Mags, etc.

X3 didn't really derail anyone.

I disagree with that.

If it didn't derail anyone, then there wouldn't really have been a reason to soft-reboot the movie out of existence with DoFP then. But it wasn't just fan outcry, but the powers that be as well; a rare time that both sides were united for a common cause.

In the first film Magneto was perfectly willing to sacrifice an innocent mutant rather than risk himself as long as it meant getting what he wanted.

In the second film Magneto attempted to annihilate all of Humanity and was a-okay abandoning Xavier to his death in the process (along with all the other mutants at the Facility).

In fact, his actions in X3 weren't as monstrous as his actions in X2.

If it didn't derail anyone, then there wouldn't really have been a reason to soft-reboot the movie out of existence with DoFP then

That was because of how X3 essentially concluded things too much. That had to reset it so there'd be more stories to tell.

Yes, because he had no other way to succeed in his plan. Whereas in X3, he needlessly allows a chunk of his army to get "cured" before removing the weapons.

So, the central difference, in two movies, he's smart and vain. In the third, he's dumb and vain.

^No. He even said, "Let the pawns go first". It was strategy to see what exactly they were up against. Magneto may not have had any concern for the well being of his troops, which makes him callous, cruel and cold, but it doesn't make him "dumb".

So, he charged unknowingly into a battle?

Yeah, that makes him dumb.

Yeah, that makes him dumb.

Not necessarily dumb, arrogant. He saw his "army" as expendable and also didn't anticipate the plastic guns and bullets (which he had Jean to take care of).

It was a different mutant who took out the plastic guns.

Speaking of dumb, why didn't he just drop the Golden Gate Bridge on it. Like, from really up high. That would significantly reduce the opposition. If not out and out kill them all.

No, he didn't "charge unknowingly into battle". He let the lower powered pawns go first in order to see what he was up against. Once he did, then he charged into battle.

And the mutant who destroyed the plastic guns was Arclight.

It's not that it derailed anyone, it's that it KILLED too many people to just bring them all back within the existing movies.

It looks to me as if the entire original X-Men trilogy was undone, not just X3. Some of the events probably still happened, but no way would it have been the same.

He arrived on the battlefield with no intel. Sent in his pawns, sacrificing them in order to learn.

Rather than, you know, gathering intel BEFORE arriving on the battle field, NOT having to sacrifice his pawns and having a larger force.

Dumb.

They didn't have much time, and didn't have much in the way of gathering intel since they lost Mystique.
