X-Men: Apocalypse announced for May 2016

John Byrne HATES all of Bryan Singer's X-men films. He always has.

I don't think he's seen any of them and he's not seen MAn Of Steel either from his comments, so I don't think he hates them. But in the case of Days Of Future I can understand sicne it was his story to begin with.

Or plot magic. ;) I'll admit I wish they had kept that portion of the comic storyline, as Kitty was the one who traveled into the past for a specific reason (her younger self hadn't been trained in psychic warfare like her teammates had, and it was therefore easier for her future mind to take control of her past body). Rachel Summers, the daughter of Jean and Scott in that future, was able to send her courtesy of her own powers. Unfortunately Kitty wound up in the wrong timeline, so her alterations didn't affect the DOFP timeline where Rachel was.

In the movie universe that had already been established, it made sense for them to use Wolverine. As for the brain powers, they obviously couldn't use Rachel Summers since Jean and Scott had already been killed off before ever having a baby. I'm glad they ended up using Kitty. Walk through walls...walk through time...same diff. :p Even if the roles were switched around, at least it kept her important to the DOFP storyline.

Which was John Byrne's gibbest complaint about the DOFP movie, in that unlike the comic book story the future alternate reality is erased.

That just sounds like Byrne beine Byrne, especially since the movie actually had the ending he intended for the comic. Byrne's original plot had the X-Men winning a clean victory with the future timeline completely erased, but Claremont changed Byrne's intent for the story with one caption box.

The ending wasn't remotely the same, in the comic the alternate future was avoided altogether and Sen. Kelly's life was saved. In the movie Magneto proved oncreen that mutants can be and are indeed dangerous. Not mention the illogic of having Kate Pryde somehow take Wolverine's mind into the past. Kitty's ability is be able to phase people and herself though solid objects not navigate minds though time and space. Wolverine's actions in the movie didn't change Mystque's mind to make her give up nor did he stop Magneto.

the dark world was not avoided in the future. I remember there was follow up book called days of future present.

I think people are giving bryan dinger to muck of a hard time for given kitty secondary mutation.

Think of it this way.

an alternate emma starts off as a telepath then as time goes by she develops secondary mutation by changing her skin to diamond.

in the original comics, kitty goes back in time but as that would have been illogical in the film universe it was only fair kitty be the one to send another person back in time.

The funny thing about not using Rachel in the movie is that even in hte comic book Jean Grey was already dead by that point and Rachel had no last name in Days Of Future Past. The story for Days Of Future was written before Jim Shooter decided that Jean Grey should be killed.

Why would it be illogical? The way it is the DOFP movie resets all of the X-Men movies save First Class. Days Of Future Present hadn't happened yet by that point and even that future was averted. The movie even has Bishop in it which further complicates matters since he's from an alternate future set after the alternate future where the Sentinals take over the United Statse.

Nothing suggests that is the case for the movie Bishop - he justs seems to be a run of the mill mutant who grow up in the ruins. Having said that, it's slightly odd that Singer doesn't throw in a single one of the 'New Mutants' in the Happier future.

Even Blink came from an alternate future in the comic books, but then Sunspot and James Proudstar were in the movie with yet again no real explain of who they are as characters.

btw, are they still going ahead with re-releasing DOFP in cinemas some time this year, as a "Directors/Extended Cut"?

I mean, I loved that movie, its possibly my favourite superhero movie of them all. But... is it really necessary, besides the Rogue scenes what more are we gonna get?

And A. Surely there are enough superhero movies out as it is.
B. DOFP's been out on DVD/bluray for months already
C. The sequel is out next year anyway, so it's not like there ages to wait for another X-movie.

I remember Avatar got rereleased in Autumn 2010 as an extended version, but tbf that was for people to experience it again in 3D, whereas DOFP's 3D was hardly vital to it.
I just wonder if mass auduiences will really care?

ps. Sophie Turner. Yes please thank you

I never heard that either. Bryan Singer mentioned what he called The Rogue Cut coming mid 2015 on twitter recently. I assume on Blu Ray.

So the soap-opera-ish nature of X-Men comics really would seem to lend itself well to a weekly live action series. The romance and drama and teen angst have always been there.

The Rogue cut won't simply be a matter of restoring deleted scenes, it will actually be a slightly different movie. When Anna Paquin's scenes were cut, it required that other aspects of the movie be re-shot.

In the Rogue Cut, Iceman dies during the rescue of Rogue, so his demise had to be moved to later in the movie and reshot. Rogue then absorbs the injured Kitty's powers and takes over as the one holding Logan in the past and that stuff needed to be re-shot.

looks like may prayers of xmen in the small screen was answered today.

It works for me !

Lots of mutants outside the main 'X' team. I haven't read the comics for over two decades, but I can remember The New Mutants, X Factor, X Force, Generation X, Excalibur and I'm pretty sure there were more recent teams like Mutant X, X Academy etc. They might even be able to use Alpha Flight characters.

There's loads of characters and stories they could do. You might even see one of the senior team occsionally, although I'd expect some 'distance', maybe even being based around Muir Isle and McTaggart...

comic bishop comes from the age of apocalypse time line, he has nothing to do with the bishop in the movie. the comics still mentions Rachel coming from a dark future
