X-Files EE: Is it worth it? POSSIBLE SPOILERS

Timelord79 (he/him)

Vice Admiral

I just saw the extended edition of I Want To Believe in the store. the cover said there are 4 additional minutes in it.
Has anyone already seen it and can tell if it's worthwhile material or just added gore?
You may spoil me if you like.

It has in the UK. (US seems to be tomorrow?)

I wish I could tell you, but I haven't received it yet. Mine is in the post.

Four extra minutes isn't going to save that movie, no matter what's in them.

If you like the movie, and were going to buy it anyway, then obviously grab the extended edition. If you weren't going to buy it anyway, then there's no reason those 4 extra minutes should change your mind - it's not like it'll change the quality of the movie.

(Speaking as an honest, diehard, and disappointed X-Files fan)

I liked the movie a great deal, but highly doubt that four minutes that were trimmed (probably most of that is gore and violence) is going to change anyone's opinion of it.

Is it a director's cut or just one of those many dvds where extra footage is thrown back into it to use as an "unrated extended edition" selling point?

Maybe if it's four minute of naked Gillian Anderson or Amanda Peet (or Peet and Anderson naked together?), that could change some people's minds. :p

It's the original cut of the film, AFAIK, so call it what you'd like. Carter had to make trims due to gore and violence, and said as much when promoting the movie.

I don't think the regular edition would be worth it. It's a so-so movie no matter how many minutes you add.

Is this the "The X-Files: I Want to Believe (Three-Disc Special Edition + Digital Copy)" or is there yet another version?

^ All DVD releases are the director's cut although I didn't notice much of a dfference.

I loved the film, although they have shit all over that beautifully conceived end credit sequence by plastering cast and crew snapshots all over it which really peeved me.

Huh? Regardless of whether you liked it, the very last thing it was is a cynical cash-in movie. Carter very much felt he was making a personal film, that much is evident.

I agree. I could tell that Carter was close to the script.

yeah, isn't it amazing how we Philes keep hoping and that bastard CC keeps disappointing us? once burnt, twice shy doesn't work with us, I guess.

that was in the first movie ;)

Just picked up the standard version of IWTB. The extras suck, but the actual film itself I found to be much more effective on the small screen. It had an early series vibe to it, therefore, I now view it as an episode rather than a feature. Bonus points for Scully being hot.

^I had a feeling that would be the case. I'll probably watch the dvd one of these weeks. Looking forward to it. Not that I didn't enjoy my trip to the theatre.
