wwe vs tnt anyone watching?

Why do people continually think we all need a history lesson in this thread? LOL. I was mainly sighing about how the Divas have been handled once again lately. What is the point in having a Divas Champion...if all you are going to do...is continually team them up? Seems to me that is pretty much what Vince does with them 90 percent of the time.

^ I agree that the WWE ought to be doing more with their Divas than they are, but I also don't think that's an excuse to sleep on this match, which should be decent and decently entertaining even if it's not the kind of match that I think most of us would like to see.

Hey, history lessons aren't a bad thing if someone gets educated. :) I don't want to name any names, but at least one person in this thread could stand to receive something resembling an education occasionally.

As far as the Tag match, it doesn't hurt that Maria is a mainstream personality and smart and gorgous.

"...you showed me some moves and had me put you in a headscissors for 15 minutes..."
-Maria to Triple H

I just watched this week's RAW. I never thought I'd say this but Cena's old theme and rapper gimmick kicked ass compared to Fruity Pebbles Super Cena.

Oh, and Jericho calling out Punk's dad as an alcoholic and Punk's reaction to it was simply superb. Punk sold it perfectly--it would have made NO sense if he had just laughed off Jericho's attack and made some snide reply to it.

I don't mean to be an ass about the history lessons...and indeed, there are some who would benefit from them in here I agree about that :) I just find they bog down the little discussion we actually have.

I've said this from the start of this Rock/Cena program...they need to bring back old school Thuganomics Cena :) He is still in there somewhere!

I agree with you about the "Thuganomics Cena", although WWE bringing the character back would be taking a risk at offending various advocacy groups that they are involved with, since the character's promos often revolved around making homosexual jokes and sexist remarks (GLAAD went spare last time Cena flirted with a return to the character) which we can attribute to creative rather than Cena (who can actually freestyle rather well about a variety of different subjects). Obviously, I would only be happy with a return to this character on the basis that Cena was allowed to write his own material for the promos and not just spout of the aforementioned homosexual and sexist jokes, because that's just lame...

...Seriously, very few "pure" professional rappers actually do that

Found this on Sprocle, I managed 147/200 without cheating, it's pretty tough but I reckon most hardcore wrestling fans can get a good amount right - even those of you who confine yourselves to American pro-wrestling! ;)

Yeah see, this is the biggest problem with the PG era, is the WWE is so afraid of pissing off those groups now that they don't do anything risky or really offenisive any more. I'm not saying they have to be entertaining...but they did a lot of it in the Attitude Era. WWE right now has become stagnant, complacent and worse of all IMO...predictable. I bet 28 right now is going to be borderline meh to good...and not the great, historic one they want it to be.

I find it interesting that Extreme Rules is in Chicago in May. That either means that Punk will retain the WWE Champion, or JeriTroll will win it (as I predict he will) and Punk will win it back in his home town and start his third WWE Title reign. They're also finishing the shoot of his DVD there as well.

^ Anyone remember when JR used to say "Anything can happen in the WWF/E!" during a particulary cool segment? - usually one where Steve Austin drove into the arena in a crazy vehicle and stunned everyone (but hey, they were awesome!)

Yes, WWE has become very predictable and I think this is largely down to the creative team and their seemingly inability to follow through with long term storylines. Even the "one year in the making" storyline with Cena/Rock has been compromised due to the creative team deciding it would be a good idea for The Rock to wrestle prior to Wrestlemania and in a match where he teams with his Wrestlemania opponent!

Most of the new and newish talent on the roster suck because WWE places restrictions upon what they can do in the ring (so not to upset the balance of the heirarchy wherein nobody lower on the pecking order can upstage the main eventers in a match unless everyone is alright with it). This is further complicated by the crappy names and gimmicks that WWE often gives to it's newer talent and then humiliates them on shows like NXT by having them engage in the most pointless and uninteresting storylines. Once this has all been done, it's extremely difficult for newer talent to get the audience to show interest in them.

I could honestly see Punk holding the WWE Championship until Summerslam, because he's only one of two full time performers on the Raw brand who have proven that they can draw as champion (the other being John Cena). But I do think there is a strong chance that Jericho is walking out of Wrestlemania as WWE Champion because a rematch for the championship in Punk's hometown is a definite draw and more so if Punk is the challenger for the title.

Jericho NOT winning the title at 28 makes no sense (oh I said that word again!) at all to me. Why bring him back if he isn't going to win the title, even for a short run? I think Chris is touring with Fozzy pretty soon right?

Why? Honestly, Jericho's return hasn't exactly hit the spot that people were expecting it to. Sure enough he's debuted a new and intriguing character, but he hasn't done anything "big" that says "draw" since he has returned.

There is no point in putting the belt on somebody who isn't red hot, unless they are a reasonably new talent who need that final boost to the main event platform that winning a world championship provides. Once they've done that they are just the same as anyone else in that position, disregarding spur of the moment booking decisions, backstage politics and the like.

The reason CM Punk was given the WWE Championship last year was because he was on fire. He was white hot in the summer and has remained hot (not as much as he was) in the ensuing months. He continues to draw and for now he is the best person for the role of WWE Champion.

Why bring him back if he isn't going to win the title, even for a short run?

People like Jericho don't need a title to work the top of the card, Jericho has been a pro for more than 20 years and he's so established that he take a loss to virtually anyone and suffer no diminished momentum. I refer you to Jericho losing clean to the likes of Evan Bourne and Kofi Kingston during periods in which he was more or less working the top of the card.

I think Chris is touring with Fozzy pretty soon right?

No idea, but if this is his plan I'm sure WWE would be keen to persuade him not to. If they can't then they'll probably write in some kind of injury angle so Jericho can take a couple of months off to do the tour.

Remember that Jericho has carte blanche over his creative control and the dirt sheets all reported that he's not going to be around for very long. He came back specifically to face CM Punk. I see this match as another "passing the torch" match. The last three Attitude Era guys all have huge matches at 28. I guess I could live without JeriTroll winning the title...I'm still a Punk fan, I just want a pay off from those promos. Jericho returning and not taking back what is his...would be lame in my opinion. Punk can always win the title back at Extreme Rules. It is going to be interesting to see what the reaction and buy rates are for 28.

The twitter war continues...I guess because this program isn't a typical one due to the Rock's acting career...they've decided to use twitter to trash talk each other and build tension based on their supposed mutual real life heat with each other.

I was just reading that the Miz has lost ten straight televised matches and 18 total. I really do wonder when the punishment is going to end. I also have read that part of the punishment has to do with his attitude back stage and his lack of effort (which is ironic since most of his promos lately have been all about how he has been the hardest working guy on the roster lol).

Recent reports have Jericho being advertised for events that take place in late August, and he's also being advertised to appear at an event scheduled for October 1st, indicating that, if he does leave again, his departure will be a fairly short one.

So who does everyone consider the best character in wrestling to be at this moment in time?

A month or so ago I would have said Brodus Clay because despite the ridiculousness of his gimmick, it was very entertaining and he was quickly gaining a lot of cheers from the audience. However, WWE decided to kill his push for some reason (some sources mention Vince McMahon feeling that Brodus was too stiff in the ring and felt that he needed more seasoning) and Clay's appearances from them on have been sporadic at best. He was getting the best kind of introduction by being frequently featured, but not shoved down our throats like some of the characters that WWE has introduced in the past.

I guess with that in mind I've got to give it to Bobby Roode for continuing to be an excellent heel champion and keeping his performances and promos consistent. This if anything, shows TNA that with a bit of dedication and hard work that they can create new stars that can quickly rise to the top of their game, so to speak.

ETA: Does anyone remember a year or so ago when Raw would open with John Cena cutting a lame promo and end with him either winning a match clean or losing dirty? (where he would go on to get his revenge the following week and/or at the next PPV)

How things change eh?

If JeriTroll continued to remain silent he would have had my vote for best current heel character. I don't know if I have a favourite or best character right now. Given my attitude lately I guess that's not a surprise. No one is really gripping me at the moment.

I have two words for you:

Great Khali

I've been thinking about what Teddy Long could do when he has to step down from the Smackdown GM role. I say this because it's very likely that Team Long will lose at Wrestlemani and Johnny Ace will gain control of both shows.

I think Teddy should go back to being a manager, he has been great in that role in the past (disregarding the African-American militant manager role he played as he managed the likes of Rodney Mack, D'Lo Brown, Mark Henry, Jazz and for some reason - Chris Nowinski in 2003/04 as part of some tasteless and crappy heel stable) managing the likes of Doom (Butch Reed and Ron Simmons) and The Skyscrapers (Dan Spivey, Sid Vicious and "Mean" Mark (Mark "The Undertaker" Callaway) Callous) in the early 1990's.

I've been thinking that they could pair Ezekiel Jackson and Mason Ryan together (since they are the most muscular guys in the WWE) and have them dominate the tag team division. They are both doing nothing and have had their respective pushes curtailed probably because of their lack in vocal skills, by having Teddy (a veteran manager/authority figure/referee) as their mouthpiece they can both gain a lot of experience and help out the tag team division, whilst not having to worry about whether or not they are getting over on the mic.

Indeed, but this can be attributed to business/political functioning because WWE were seriously trying to score a market in India at the time (they still are, but realised that Khali wasn't exactly a draw as champion).

I shudder at the thought of Big Johnny as Sole General Manager!!! What was the point of getting Mick Folely back? I guess Mick just came back for the HOF thing...which I guess will be next year? I'm just tired of heel GM's...Rao...I sound like someone else in this thread now!!

I doubt that he'll be dual-GM for an extended period of time either way, in the sense that someone else will take over or they will unify the brands once again. I'd agree and say that Mick Foley is probably the best bet for the role of a GM.

It could be worse though, can you imagine if WWE decided to go with David Otunga as Smackdown GM?! In fact the possibility of David Otunga winning a world title is enough to give any true wrestling fan nightmares.

I remember reading a while back that Jennifer Hudson doesn't like the idea of her husband wrestling (yet she married a wrestler!!) didn't think much of that at the time, but it makes sense why they've paired him up with Big Johnny. I have barely seen him wrestle...although that also could be because I don't watch Smackdown :)
