WW2 game against the soviets in the eastern front...

Yevetha

Commodore
How could a shooter like that work without causing a huge controversy?

Personally i am in favor of a game in which i am a finnish soilder.

clearly you've never played Call of Duty, Call of Duty: United Offensive, Call of Duty 2, Call of Duty 3 or Call of Duty: World at War since all of those feature a Soviet campaign.

That's not the same thing, cap.

I don't know of any games that feature a campaign like that, Yevetha. I think it could work, but if you're playing as Germans on the Eastern Front, they'd probably have to end up being betrayed and go rogue, then end up fighting both sides while trying to escape, or something.

In 2004 an Italian software house produced Il Rosso e il Nero (The Red and the Black), a first-person shooter set in the last years of WWII and focusing on the civil war in Italy between Communist partisans and Fascist soldiers. It was very well done, with special efforts on reconstructing uniforms, insignias, weapons, etc.

It caused quite a bit of controversy, because people could choose which side they wanted to play.

Sniper Elite did that.

There is also Red Orchestra, that is set to the Eastern Front during WWII:

The maps are big and I think it is a pretty good game, though it is meant mostly for multiplayer, though you can play the maps against bots, too.

Also in the Battlefield 1942 has some EF maps that you can play as German or Russian:

( The game also has American, British and Japanese armies to play). Maybe an older game but IMHO very fun to play still:techman:
