I also don't recall seeing any room for the shuttlecraft to set down, and somehow, I don't think those puppies can hover particularly well, especially in high winds.
Where did you get that name? New Voyages?...has fled down to the Gateway planet...
Do we know she's the head of that department? And then we have...the Chief engineer and the head of communications?!?
It's Scotty, btw....being chased by Scottie and the two security guys.
I don't think there was ever any indication of that on the show. Not to mention, every communication officer we saw--from Alden to Palmer to "Lt. Lisa"--was a lieutenant, same rank as Uhura. One would think a department head would be a lieutenant commander, like Scotty, McCoy or Security Chief Giotto.Do we know she's the head of that department? And then we have...the Chief engineer and the head of communications?!?

You're injecting reality into a Star Trek geek thread? Heresy! It also didn't help that they didn't have a shuttlecraft set or model built yet.![]()

Well didn't they have more than one transporter? They weren't ALL affected by yellow cake.
It probably gets cold when its sun goes down. And if the planet was that freaking cold, why were the hurt crewman and both Kirks wearing normal uniforms and not wearing winter gear when they beamed up?
.
The crew is given "landing party" rotations, so they all get experience doing it. I think that's pretty much the simplest explanation, if there's not a strong technical reason (like Scotty having experience with time ripple phenomenon).

They hadn't planned on being down that long.

If the ship's weapons were powerful enough to destroy an entire planet, then couldn't they use them to disrupt the storm on the planet as well?
