WoW - Musings & Discussion

After attempting to make money selling glyphs for a month I eventually realized that on my realm at least you make more money selling the ink. I can sell Ink of the Sea for 3.5g each but for most glyphs I'm lucky to get more than 2g. Don't ask me how this makes any sense. :wtf:
Really, the only people who seemingly make money with inscription are the same folks who surpass the gold cap because they're dealing in thousands of gold in sales and mats daily. Plus, if your realm is anything like mine Blizzard did a recent mass ban of botters, and herb prices have skyrocketed. I'm actually making a killing on lichbloom again.

I've actually been raiding half-assed all this expac with a group of friends, and I've been -- on and off -- preparing for my future human hunter main since they announced their inclusion in the expac. Five tabs of herbs, cloth, gear, rep turn ins (insta-exalted with the Aldor and Sons of Hodir? Yes please), and, of course, roleplay outfits. Plus, 65,000g from selling odds and ends, spending on my main, and moving my epic gem transmute every day.

Just trying to decide if I should buy a bike and bank it until after the expac for the new human.

Oh, and for the record, I discovered that if a name you want is held by a lvl 1 on a canceled account a friendly GM might be willing to change that character's name and give it to you. After talking with a GM I managed to reserve the name "Lucy" for that human hunter. :)

What does everyone think of the new talent system? I think some aspects of it are fantastic... level 10 iconic abilites, less bloat, more choice within trees etc...

Some things not so great. Like forcing 31 points in a tree which limits hybrid specs, and the early indications of the trees seeming much more simple and basic with limited options. I really dislike that so many old tier 3 abilites like Feral Charge, Divine Sacrifice, Shadowburn, Inner Focus etc... all are still at that tier, now rendered inacessible to other specs. Some things, like Soul Link and certain passives have been moved down with this in mind. I hope they follow suit on some of these classic sub spec abilites and make them tier 2, so you can get them with 6 points (or even 8-9 if there's a sideways requirement)

i think the new talent system is great for new players. i've always wondered how (or if) new super casual players could figure out the talent system. you are given very little indication of it when it gets unlocked. and it was tough to figure out what is really good. these changes should address that. (along with the leveling announcement and new spell book).

as for the regular wow gamer... i dont know enough about the talents to form an opinion. they are probably still in flux. though i am excited to check out low level BGs with this system in play, it should make them very interesting.

New talent system is pretty easy; fill up the tree and get the first tier or two in another. Try a Balance druid spec; you grab nearly everything and put 5 points in Resto. The only 'choice' are between two situation abilities.

The revamp of the talent trees I think is a good idea. Blizzards wants you to be able to know how to spec without referring to a guide online which is outside the game. As it is right now I see a lot of new players with horrible specs who are doing only a fraction of their possible DPS. Then you have to tell them that they should go to a website and "research" how to spec. I dunno, it doesn't seem very fun. It should be simpler, and I'm glad they're making the change.

I was once declined membership in a guild because my talent spec was 4 points off from the one posted on Elitistjerks.com. I probably didn't want to raid with those guys anyway.

I do like the changes. The pessimist in me though, thinks this will eventually lead to "you pick your spec and the talents will come automatically as you level, no choosing needed".

mmo-champion has posted the the guild leveling rewards. ome pretty cool abilities there. Now, will all guilds start at zero, or will existing guilds get levels for achievements already completed?

Oh, I thought they cancelled the Guild Leveling thing. Or did they just simplify it?

If Guild Leveling follows the pattern of Achievements, then we'll get credit for stuff already done.

Which reminds me... I still need to do BWL before the expac. :)

I've got a quick question, as I have been thinking of picking this up soon as it is cheap now. Is the only way to play it by joining with loads of other people and doing group quests etc or could I toddle around on my own as well at times?

The game looks interesting, but if the only way to do anything is co-ordinate with lots of other people to do anything, I might not bother.

There's only so much you can do without grouping with other people.

If you want to play solo, I recommend you stick to games like Dragon Age, which is very good in it's own right. WoW is most certainly NOT meant to be played solo.

Yeah I have Dragon Age and it is an outstandingly good game.

I dont mind playing with other people sometimes, but just if that is really the only way to do anything of interest in the game, and especially since no one I know has the game either so it's not like I can play with them, I may just look elsewhere.

Bullshit. I have solo'd many characters to max level and enjoyed hours and hours of play.

Now soloing will keep you out of instanced dungeons as they are meant for groups, but you will hardly miss it. Once you reach max level you won't have much to do with your character unless you join groups. WoW does allow you to make 10 characters per server though, so it will be quite a while before you run out of gameplay.

Playing out in the regular world and doing quests is meant for solo play, especially since they removed most of the elite monsters and introduced phased terrain. Every once in a great while you will run across a quest that needs 2 or 3 people. Dungeons are meant for groups of 5, but you can use the "dungeon finder" to automatically assemble a group, or skip them altogether. If you enjoy PvP, that is also an activity where you don't have to go out and recruit a bunch of people.

Back at ya.

I can't stand playing WoW solo. There seems to be little point to it, and it's just filled with mind crushing tedium. I guess maybe for some people that might be their thing.

Well, I guess we have our answer. Solo or group both work fine, depending on your personal preference. :)

Who hasn't spent a Sunday afternoon peaceful questing by themselves in Stranglethorn Vale or Nagrand? But eventually, to get the most out of your $15 a month you really should be interacting with other players in the game whether it's running Heroics, Raiding or PVPing. Most of my fondest memories of the game come from group leveling with close friends.

OK, you can't stand playing solo. Good for you. That doesn't mean it can't or isn't meant to be done. Your reply was not the information he requested. and therefore bullshit.

WoW is not meant (i.e. not designed) to be played solo. It's meant to be a social game.

Fact.

That you or anyone else is able to find pleasure in it is just fine for you, but is anomalous and not at all representative of the norm.

So "back at ya" with your "bullshit".

Good grief, how did this turn so ugly so instantaneously? Oh yeah, Sojourner was being cranky. :D We're arguing about personal preferences here, so we're all equally full of BS. :)
