WoW - Musings & Discussion

That's funny.

I still hear people talk about dps rotations, but for most classes it's not a rotation, it's a list of prioritized abilities and spells you cast whenever they are up or whenever a particular condition is met. There is no 112341123112341123 anymore.

That's why I said most classes and not all. And most classes do have a starting rotation, it's just not something that can be kept up during a fight.

3.3 seems to be promising a nerfing massacre. A lot of nerfing and not much buffing (at least not as much as I can think of compared to the nerfs). And Ice Crown Citadel is coming out. It looks to be yet another combination of heroic dungeon, raid and 25 man raid with heroic/hardmode versions of them too.

No more LFG as we know it; they're implementing cross-realm groups, raids get their own channel and they are doing away with dailies, turning them into weekly raids. Dailies are now random daily dungeons. Do the random daily, get a couple of the newest frost emblem. After that it's 2 Triumphs for every random you do. And if you do it, you get more rewards, including a chance at the pugging pug noncombat pet.

It must mean only a matter of time before we see Cataclysm hitting the PTR and a few months of testing it before it's release. Maybe though not likely the first/second quarter of 2010.

Yes, there's very lengthy thread on Chill of the Throne over at Tankspot that I need to catch up on. I'm waiting for the patch to come out before getting too worked up. There was a lot of Lay on Hands drama over at the official forums, and that was reverted before it went live. Though, Ghostcrawler did make it sound like they weren't through with playing around with paladin mechanics right now. To be honest, I haven't read up on many of the other nerfs yet.

My attitude towards pugs has generally been pretty positive this expansion. The heroics are easy enough, especially with my gear where it is now, that they're generally not painful. People have generally been more pleasant to group with than they were during TBC when heroics could be pretty rough even with good gear. The new LFG system has the potential to have a lot more asshattery like bgs did once they became cross server.

The other major nerf drama is more PVP related dealing with the Will of the Forsaken being tied into the cooldowns with trinkets. I don't PVP much so it's not as big a deal for me but the general consensus I've seen is "where's the nerf to Every Man for Himself?" Seems a lot of the nerfing is related to PVP in some way, such as LOH. I like it for soloing or if you have a bad healer or just bad timing with a boss in a dungeon or raid and the healer can't heal you in time. The 20 min cooldown on it ought to make nerfing it a redundant thing unless they reduce the cooldown to something more reasonable.

There is a lot of work overhauling LFG to try to defuse any potential ninjaing or general asshattery but as you said, we have to wait til the patch is out to see how it'll work.

I've seen a lot of drama over the WOTF but haven't been following. That seems...strange unless they're beefing it up to share the same properties as EMFH.

I don't really pvp, so most of the drama over the OP of an ability or class generally doesn't concern until it affects pve like the LoH nerf would have. I largely use it for the same thing. Mostly group quests, though I often use it to recover mana rather than health, like when I'm soloing Chillmaw. It's also saved me a few times while tanking.

I've long been of the opinion that pvp and pve balance should be handled separately. I would have been perfectly happy with exorcism being handled the way it was after 3.1 when it was instant cast but not usable on other players, for instance.

My progression guild has been grinding away at 25-man ToC hardmodes and I'm pretty well sick of it by this point. I realize this is just a "filler" dungeon between Ulduar and ICC but the four lockouts timers is just cruel. I've run that place so many times. @_@ I can tell the rest of the guild is starting to get burned out as well, people are getting really irritable and petty with each other. ICC can't come soon enough.

On a positive note my collection of alts is growing nicely. I'm up to 4 80s now and working on my 5th and 6th. I will probably have an 80 of every class before Cataclysm releases. ^_^

edit:
Haha, I just realized how crazy that sounds. Seriously though I am having a lot of fun leveling alts right now. The changes to XP and the addition of heirloom pieces have made it a lot of fun.

I'm just glad rogues seem to have been mostly ignored for a change, except for the whole Vanish thing and a few modifications so trivial I won't even call them buffs.

Personally, I'm betting on quite a few more weeks before we see 3.3 go live. It seems like they don't even have all the stuff implemented yet on the PRT, unless they're going to release it in sections... 3.3.0, 3.3.1, 3.3.2... And a Christmas 2010 release date for Cataclysm.

And will someone please define "asshatting" for me? I'm too old to keep up with all these wonderful new colorful metaphors. :vulcan::lol:

Christmas 2010 release date for Cataclysm.

They mentioned at Blizzcon that people would be complaining about Goblin rogues by the next Blizzcon (August). So Cataclysm will be out well before Christmas. My personal guess is that it may come as soon as March or April. I think ICC will come in mid-November.

They also stated ICC is the last raid of WotLK. That puts a deadline on getting Cata out the door. They have to keep the raiders happy. No way they'll leave it half a year without new raids.

An asshat is a butt-head, basically. A jerk.

Oh dear I have just started playing WOW on a trial today and erm its ok-ish :wtf: the world is coimg to an end ;)

Actually, if they released it end of 2010, it would be a year without a new raid.

I would actually be okay with that as it would let me enjoy the rest of WotLK on my own. I still need to finish Ulduar though I finished ToC ages ago.

I would just like to announce that I have reserved the BEST NAME EVAH for my future goblin(s).

It is Prinadora. Goblins are really WoW Ferengi and my female goblin will be very aptly named.

Can't believe am enjoying WOW, played it for past 3 days and decided that I will buy the game and give it a few months to see more of it. :techman:

Over the last year I've gotten more and more into the lore. There are a lot of different ways to enjoy WoW though it often seems to be all about phat lewtz. There are a lot of different ways to play it too.

I may be getting too old for the game, as I'm getting tired with it, and the kids annoy the heck out of me, what with the constant shouts of "noob!", "F*ck you c*cksucker noob", and so on.

I play far too much and I just don't see "constant shouting" of any such thing. The ignore list exists for a reason, no one forces you to be in the general or trade channels, and you can join a friendly, adult-based guild that doesn't tolerate bullshit like that if you look for one.
