WoW - Musings & Discussion

Latest crazy theory? Worgen and Goblins as playable races.
MMO-Champion.

Goblins and Worgens are the new races of the Expansion
I like catchy titles. In the last PTR build 4 new textures of Halloween masks have been added.

* 2 of them are for Goblins masks - Helm_Mask_Halloween_GoF and Helm_Mask_Halloween_GoM
* 2 of them are for Worgens masks - Helm_Mask_Halloween_WoF and Helm_Mask_Halloween_WoM

Even if the Goblin texture would make sense as an addition to the game, adding Worgens texture out of nowhere is definitely a sign that the 2 new races of the expansion will be the Worgens (most likely for the Alliance) and the Goblins.

I know that a lot of people will love to argue with that over hundreds of replies. I would just like to add that it usually takes a lot to make me post something on the front page and I don't think I've ever been wrong everytime I did. Hopefully Blizzard will react fast enough and add tons of new masks in the next build just to pretend that it was intended. (Suggestion: Pandarens please)

of course another idea could be that this might be the last patch before halloween, so if there were going to be revamps or additions of any kind this would be the time to put them in...

That was quickly "discredited" by many who are certain this isn't more than that, or a joke on data miners. It's not like Blizzard doesn't know about them doing this so it's entirely possible they put these in as a joke to get the data miners speculating. Like the Emerald Dream changes that mean nothing. Emerald Dream files have been in there for years and we have yet to see anything happen with them.

Interesting rumor. I don't think I've ever heard the Worgen proposed as a new playable race, expecially for the Alliance. Even from a purely Lore standpoint, I can't see this being true.

I personally am kind of leaning towards there being no more new races in future patches, but we'll see. :)

Hmm.

No comment on the veracity of the files or the likelihood of new races in the next expansion, but personally I don't find either race appealing. Honestly, I'm not sure WoW actually needs any more races. I'd love to see the current ones receive additional polish, though.

One thing I definitely want to see in the next expansion is more class-specific content. I also think levelling the field for new players would be a good idea. I love the "old world" and have enjoyed levelling my Warrior there recently, but it's not for everyone. WoW's playerbase is ageing, it's time to acknowledge that.

We were chatting about the old world in my guild the other day. It might be nice to see some 80+ content in old areas. Maybe if they "phased" it for 80 quests so lowbies don't accidentally wander into an insta-death zone. Or it might be cool to give all the old dungeons a Heroic mode. Heroic Stocks anyone? :techman:

I've heard suggestions before too but then they always come to the conclusion it's a bad idea. As much fun as it would be to relive those as heroics, it would mean retuning them to 80, releasing new gear for the drops and so on, all of it taking away from genuinely new content.

It's along the lines of those who want them to maintain an old world server that doesn't go past 60 and retains all those old elements. A nice fantasy but an impossible reality.

Pfft, well, if you're gonna be all logical about it... :vulcan: :p :)

Meanwhile, my quest to raise my dps continues. :)

There's another thread about WoW in here, but it's not actually about WoW, if you catch the distinction. If not, perhaps this'll help:

I ran Gnomer on Rii yesterday. I'm new to the tanking game and the Warrior class, so it was an interesting experience. The subtle psycho-social differences between playing a tank and any other role are beginning to make themselves felt even at this level.
I'm curious. Were you forced into the tank role because you're a warrior, or did you actually want to be a tank?
Because most tanks that I know got forced into their role during leveling.

Which I find funny, because up until the lvl 50 instances like Sunken Tempel or Maraudon, you don't actually need real tanks, as long as the players know how to play their classes.
For example, I once ran Zul Farrak on my Warlock. The group was composed of another warlock, two mages and one shadowpriest. We didn't wipe once. Just did "Threat Ping Pong" all the time.
To this day, that ZF run was the most fun I ever had in this game.

I also had other instances, where the hunters would use their pets as tanks, or even one, where the priest "tanked" using mind control on mobs.

I went into tanking head first on my paladin. I wasn't asked or even in a guild at the time. It was a new server and a friend's guild had relocated there so I decided to just level a new character there to eventually join their guild (which incidently never happened but we formed an alt guild). I went from level 1 to 80 as a paladin tank the entire way. It's much different than a DPS or Healer role. I've got an 80 resto druid so it's a real change of pace in how you fight.

It was so much easier to level too IMO compared to most of my other characters although by then I knew what/where/how to do everything, I still found taking out orange and red level quests and mobs went faster and easier. Even now I can do stuff like solo Chillmaw without dying in the process.

Only thing is it takes a lot of practice and research to become a good tank who knows how to play the role well.

I love the idea of Worgen as a playable race. Those masks look COOL, and I can imagine how fun it would be to play a wolf. The Alliance could use a real "beast" race.

By the way for those wondering how the lore would work... there is a quote somewhere in the Grizzly hills Worgen questline about how it would be possible for good people to control their Worgen transformations and use the powers against the Scourge and the Undead. I think it could be a hint/seed.

My guild finally downed Yogg-Saron 25 last week. Huzzah!

I do not envy the job of our raid leaders, having to organize 25 people to be at the same time and place and ready to raid three times a week. We would have downed this boss a month or two ago, if he hadn't kept wiping on the raid attendance boss. :klingon: Our sever, Velen, has also been plagued with outages at various points. We missed two Tuesdays in a row in June, which hugely delayed our progression.

On a related note, I seem to have entered into the "ramping up for new content" mode. I'm finding my main boring to play (except raid nights) and am passing the time with alts until the new content is released.

Yeah, I decided to level fishing while waiting for the new content.

I have actual hopes this will be a decent movie now. I was encouraged when they discouraged the likes of Uwe Boll from directing it but Sam Raimi is definitely a name who won't go to extremes with the license and mess it up.

so Sam Raimi is set to direct the WoW movie... i'm kinda excited now.

Warcraft movie, not WoW movie. Yes, I'm anal.

Blizzard has effectively ret-conned everything from the first three games into the World of Warcraft mythos. I'm not saying that the movie will be based in the time frame that WoW takes place in (in fact I'd bet against it), and it will probably just be called Warcraft, but I hope that's all you were alluding to. I've seen some Warcraft RTS purists get downright bent out of shape about WoW. Very Trekkie like. ;)
