Re: Would you really care if Star Trek was rebooted anew from now forw

How, it got cancelled 40 years ago and if it was shown on mainstream TV today do you really think it would a ratings hit?

Yes it was so if Abrams was taking the mick of what they did back then thats one thing, but does that mean that the new guys should cut them so much slack that they feel they feel they to do the new one exactly how they did back then?

He comes across as a snob with those remarks.
They didn't have CGI and all the crap Hollywood takes for granted these days back in the 60's.

Even Bob Justman made those remarks, commenting on the newer Trek series and even the remastered TOS!!

Bob Fucking Justman. You know the guy who PRODUCED STAR TREK from 1964-1969 and then the first season of TNG? The guy who was GENE RODDENBERRY's RIGHT HAND MAN. He said those things too.

Okay...How about we simmer down here...

Let's try to keep this conversation civil.

Thanks. :)

I won't repost what you edited out, but you should have edited more quickly -- like before someone could see it and push the notify button, and preferably before ever posting it in the first place.

That said, you've got a warning for flaming. Please don't do it any more.

Re: Would you really care if Star Trek was rebooted anew from now forw

Im thinking this discussion isnt going to be resolved unless they suddenly announce they reset everything at the end or say it was all a hoax and reveal they filmed the entire thing using NV sets, props and costumes which is what you all want (except Matt obviously)

So with that in mind why dont you stop moaning about a film your not going to see (and please if you mean it dont go download a copy so you can rip into it otherwise all respect for you will be lost) and go talk about something else completly this stress cant be good for you

Well, as long as I got a warning for it, can I repost it?? It was a sweet warning worthy insult..a literary masterpiece of epic depravity.

Re: Would you really care if Star Trek was rebooted anew from now forw

^^Too late. They have already lost any respect I had for them. Believe it or not, at one point I did respect their right to disagree. That was before they started turning it into an 'I hate everyone who disagrees' festival.
Others have disagreed and even made good points. I respect them, because they did it in a nice way and did not call anyone names who disagrees.
Now I just wish the haters would get the same warnings as those who defend themselves from the Haters Club. The Haters Club is constantly disrupting the board from having any meaningful discussion. They derail things to the point that it is hard to return to the original poster's topic. That in itself should be a violation of TrekBBS rules.

I voted that I don't mind this movie rebooting Star Trek, I'm ok with change.
I still stand by this vote. I am still willing to listen to anyone make a non-hateful statement which disagrees with my vote.

Yes, he's a condescending jerk.

How so?

Did you read his quote there?
Silly? Ridiculous?
The show was made in the 60's.
Cut them some slack for Christ's sake.

It's now 2008.

I've said it before and I'll say it again. If Gene Roddenberry were alive today, with a budget of $150 million dollars to do a Star Trek Prequel/Franchise Re-invigourator/Reboot/Movie that was completely faithful to canon - the Enterprise would not look anything like it did 40 years ago.

It would not. I'm telling yer.

He'd change the lot. Costumes too.

I'm telling yer.

He did in 1979 and then again in 1986.

Because they're not willing to cut Trek a break, for most people Star Trek is a bad joke. Abrams knows this, fortunately.

He would. He wouldn't be too worried about whether it was the same as the stuff they did 40 years ago on a budget of 10 cents.

He'd just make it the best it could be.

It only looked that way as they had no money. When they had money they changed stuff. Made it look better. Put a wall in engineering, made a shuttlecraft, made the uniforms out of better material, made the special effects more realistic, made the enterprise model more realistic, changed the theme tune a bit...

Re: Would you really care if Star Trek was rebooted anew from now forw

I'll wait to see if he'll respond to my second PM.
If he doesn't, I'll give up and try to ignore this movie as much as possible and it won't be easy.
Yes, that includes ignoring any of the cast members who may apporach me at a convention I attend.
I can only tolerate so much about Abrams-Trek.
The funny part is this movie opens the day after my 31st birthday. That just rubs salt in the wound even more. I kind of wish it did come out of Christmas this year.
He was nice enough to grant you the privilege of having a private conversation with him. What makes you think he owes you anything at all?

Don't give me that attitude.
I tried my best to be nice to the guy.

So just who do you think you are? You're NOBODY. You're NOTHING.

A nobody who will make my feelings known to any of these posers should they try to talk to me.

I think he changed the design slightly in 1979 which he might have admitted today was a mistake and changed it back, because he had to explain some modification the the Enterprise due to the sheer fact that it had been eleven years since we last saw Kirk and engineers love to redesign things.

This point has always bothered me too about Khan never seeing Chekov's face. was't he allowed access to the ship's records during flight. So he saw Chekov's picture, big deal. I'm sure the Eugenics wars can be explained away through some parallel universe time vortex or something. Everything has an explaination.
