Let us for the sake of argument assume that when you died you would be reincarnated as a sentient being about equal in intelligence to humans either here on Earth or as a being on another planet.

Now when you reincarnate you will have no memories of your past life here on Earth.

Given what you know of life on Earth, would you choose to be reborn here? Or would you take your chances living your new life on another planet since it is likely to be better?

Why is it likely to be better? It's complete chance.

And yes, I would choose another planet, just to see.

Right now on a planet millions of light years away (in our past) an alien is asking the exact same question on their version of the internet.

That brings up a...debate within my religion. It's annoying but:

We believe time is circular. It isn't the fact that you CAN be born on another planet, but you can be born 1000 years in the past or 1000 in the future on another planet. It is a fascinating theory.

I'm good, thanks.

Given the way the majority of humanity lives, I'm not so sure I'd want to take my chances here unless I was guaranteed to grow up someplace in the West.

Why would I care? If I don't remember my life here I'm a totally different person anyway. If I was a totally different guy anyway I'd be some guy on earth right now banging Jennifer Love Hewitt(though not necessarily Jamie Kennedy.

I'd probably have an equal chance at living a good life on Earth as I would living a shitty one, so I figure, why not take a chance at life as a non-terrestrial? I may not be able to remember my existence on Earth, but at least my life-force will experience some variety. Besides, I've always wanted to go to another planet, and doing so in another life (if it were possible) would probably be the closest I'd be able to get to that.

If I can't remember anything, it doesn't really make any difference.

Yeah, if you don't remember, who cares? You have no point of reference for comparison between Earth and the new world. Each would be a completely new experience regardless of what you chose.

Where on Earth?

In a wealthy and respected part of the world where you will have good prospects, or some third-world country/warzone to spend your (short) life in poverty and danger?

Earth isn't a typical Star Trek just-one-society planet.

I would choose Earth. I love our planet! Nature as found on Earth makes me truly happy and I wouldn't trade it in for any other planet. Some people around me always talk about going out into space like it's something exciting and "better." But I am very content with the beauty and resources we have been given on this planet.

During a certain window of time, there are Ne beings that are conceived on Earth. During that same window of time there are Ns beings conceived elsewhere in the universe.

If you choose Earth you have an equal chance to be any of the Ne newborn humans on Earth. If you choose another planet you have an equal chance to be any of the Ns newborn beings in the same window of time.
