Would ya

^I'm going to have to disagree.

Provided one wanted to speculate that a Voyager movie might be somewhat similar in tone to Serenity, in the sense of a close-knit group of characters working together to solve a problem, I would say that the deaths in that movie were -very- effective.

Though it illustrates the need for a good writer when you consider that one of the deaths in Serenity which made a definite impression on me had previously been done in similar fashion in one of the Matrix movies...and in that case I was completely apathetic.

Also, tell me that Spock's death isn't an iconic moment in Trek history.

Death is a part of life, and to watch movies that, beyond a point, fail to acknowledge its existence, especially when you're talking about people travelling through space and being exposed to danger on a regular basis, is just...for lack of a better term, pretentious, IMO.

I'm not saying there -should- be a death in a Voyager film, but to claim there absolutely shouldn't because it "doesn't make a good plot"...that doesn't ring at all true to me.

My fantasy (yes, this is just in my head) is there'd be a Voyager miniseries with Admrl. KJ in the lead the 1st two hours, w/ my favorite characters from TNG, DS9 and Voy, of course, showing up, in varying degrees. She'd be involved w/ some Federation crisis, maybe a followup w/ something to do w/ the last TNG movie (not nuTrek universe, want Vulcan still intact). And she'd be with a certain guy from Voy. tho he could be off somewhere doing his own thing. Then at the end there would be a segue to another Voyager series, Voyager II, maye 15 - 20 yrs. later, the details I won't go into here. But that's my if-I-won-Powerball idea; imagination's a wonderful thing! GS.

Writing death is easy, almost too easy. It appears to be huge and life changing, but it really is the same plot over and over. Writing a good conflict is much harder and usually produces a better and more satisfying story.

Major character death always sets my teeth on edge, mainly because it is the easy way out.

Maybe, but sometimes giving the audience "the happy ending" is also taking the easy way out.

Hm...and now we're back to one of the things that bugged me about Voyager...i.e. how they generally never took serious risks with the characters.

I understand that you, the collective you, as a writer is supposed to murder your most favourite character because using them like a glowing angel for always and a day is the easy way out... Unless it's the titular character and then things get ridiculous like how Blakes seven continued for 2 years after Blake "died" or Londo's drunky memories where he claimed that Sinclair was the "last commander of babylon 5" because he forgot all about Sheridan, Lochley and the next 20 years worth of... Killing Spock was awesome because it just can't have happened. It was an impossible death. Dude should have been untouchable.

Data''s death was almost as silly as Tashas.

In the news column here, Pat Stewart is remarking on the farcity of how he has had to even act against/opposite "oilslicks" during his tenure on next gen (Note, on Family Guy when Pat was asked if he slept with Whoopie Goldberg between filming on set, he confirmed the question by saying "all the time." but on the Big bang Theory Wil Wheaton was posed with almost exactly the same question and he just sneered in contempt... Although both at the time were reading scripts other people wrote, it's obvious that one of these men had a much gayer (it still means happy too!)time on the Enterprise) he might have forgotten the gravity substantiating the death of Tasha when that Oil-slick got pissy and flailed... Not that Tasha is a real person and we have all speculated about the fog of contentiousness Denise left the show surrounded in which is something probably worth remembering for that Anglo.

I would support a Voyager movie any time.

Id love to see a big twist in the tail as far as Seven of Nine was concerned. Maybe her implants start to replicate and the threat to Earth as she begins to assimilate the crew. The Queen Borg had her as a plant the whole time.

Janeway getting home and being greeted by her dog (if still alive) or its puppies.

I personally think a huge battle could entail, since they got one Borg cube into the Alpha Quadrant it would be easy to get others. Major explosions, the lot!!!

If they can do as many films as they did about the original Star Trek, why cant they do the same with Voyager.

I dont like the thought of seeing the one and only (ok the second) female Captain remaining in our imaginations. With women flying jets, being in the front line etc, its about time Star Trek got more females in the command structure.

I really don't think I could take a Voyager movie seriously. They took the story to its natural conclusion in Endgame. Trying to bring these characters back together would seem forced in the absence of the situation that brought them together originally.

^^ True, and yet I think there are situations where the crew can be reassembled "naturally", like how they did it in Star Trek II and III.

But it never really felt all that organic. People do go their own way and the Star Trek movies postulate that everyone is sitting around 'waiting for the next adventure'. It also felt awkward when Worf would show up in the TNG movies after being moved to Deep Space Nine.

The only way I would want to see the Voyager characters again was if they were presented with a new dynamic. New characters mixed with some returning ones (See Kirsten Beyers' Full Circle and Unworthy).

Have no interest in seeing a Voyager movie and I loved the series. Personally, I would rather see a Deep Space Nine direct to DVD movie or a Star Trek New Frontier movie in the wake of JJ Abram's alternate time line.

Ah, heck. I might as well come out and admit. All I really want to see is a revamp bloody directors cut of the last episode. I want to see Jem Hedar and Cardassians slaughtering Klingons and Humans on Cardassia and all the stupid and boring scenes edited out. I want to see a crazy starship battle sequence which would bring the running time up to an additional 25 minutes.

On that note: It probably wouldn't hurt to do a directors cut of Voyager's last episode, too. Add in an additional 25 minutes that would show us Voyager landing on Earth and the crew meeting up with their loved ones in a big emotional way.
