Would TNG work today?

Would TNG still be popular today given all the choices viewers have?

I voted yes.

First, it's important to realize that the business of TV has changed radically since TNG was on the air, so it couldn't depend on syndication or survival anywhere on network TV. Skiffy couldn't afford the price tag for a high-end production, so you'd have to be happy with lower production values.

However, the bland-happy approach of TNG vs the darker DS9 approach would fit well with Skiffy's other successful fluff-sci-fi shows like Eureka and Warehouse 13. A lower-end TNG type series is the type of Star Trek most likely to be successful on Skiffy.

Now, Star Trek on AMC, HBO or Showtime would be a very different and more interesting thing. But it wouldn't be at all like TNG. More likely, it would fall between DS9 and RDM's BSG.

PS, SGU wasn't a good show and it wasn't going to get any better with time. The creative team (using that term very liberally) knew how to make passable mindless fluff, but they were well out of their zone to try to ape the dark, serious drama of BSG. They simply didn't know how, and just created an unwatchable pile of steaming dung that needed to be shoveled into the nearest convenient landfill.

No, because it doesn't feature any zombies or vampires.

That's funny, because it did. They were called the Borg. Maybe you've repressed the memory? ;)
