Would Riker get away with calling Picard "JL"?

During the time of TNG I don't see most of the crew, outside of Beverly Crusher, calling Picard anything other than Captain. Now once he's retired that's a different story. I can see Riker and Troi calling him Jean-Luc. Perhaps not Geordi. I'm thinking back to "All Good Things..." when he still referred to him as Captain, or Admiral. Worf probably would still refer to him by rank out of habit and probably respect.

JL, that's strikes me more as a unique nickname that a single character might create. Many have those friends that they're the only person that calls us by a certain nickname that doesn't catch on for others. Or in some cases maybe we only allow one friend to call us by a particular name. I have one friend that insists on calling me "Chuck" based on my middle name, which is Charles. I think she does it partly because she knows I'm not fond of it. But I kind of let it go. But I don't let other people call me that.

I'm just not sure why this is a big deal for some. I can't see Riker ever calling Picard JL. But not sure why that would preclude another character calling him that. Maybe Picard doesn't like being called that, but in that characters case he's just let it go or has gotten used to it. I'm not sure what the big deal is.

Ok, this thread is proof positive we Trekkies can argue over anything. :nyah:. But 14 pages of comments about a nickname?
This thread defies any logic for existence. I called for it to be closed twice already. Since it has a mind of it's own I now believe will last at-least 1000 pages long spread over next 5+ years :D

Probably. Eventually, if it follows the pattern of other threads, it may eventually morph into something that has nothing to do with the original post.

Of course, who would have thunk a thread about a nickname would result in someone getting banned and another getting spanked. I guess we as fans can go a bit overboard sometimes.

Why does everyone assume they are biological siblings? I don't see it.

I'm not familiar with that show but I'm also a big Dallas fan and watched the 2012 revival series. And I always found it odd that no one thought it was a big deal that Christopher was married for a time to his 1st cousin Pamela Rebecca. Didn't even come up once on the show. Oh, her deception did but no one seemed bothered that he was married to his cousin and she was, for a time, pregnant with his children.

Granted, he's adopted so they aren't blood relatives. I mean, that takes out some of the uck factor at least. But still.

And of course we found out when Ray Krebbs was Jock's son and it's best not to think about his affair very early in the show with Lucy, who would turn out to be his niece (though in the show runners defense they didn't know at the time eventually he would be written to be her uncle a few years later). In that case the show basically never referred to it again, probably a wise decision--and Ray became a caring uncle for her without any romantic references ever coming up again.

Isn't it the conversation between Commodore Oh and Lt. Rizzo where we first get the impression that the two of them are possibly siblings?

For that, either Picard or Raffi needs a sombrero.

Don't think it's necessary to close the thread, as the main troublemakers have been dealt with at the highest level, and neither was the OP.

It is amusing, when you consider the deleted alternative ending to Nemesis where Riker playfully fools the naive new First Officer into using an informal address with Picard, only for the Captain to be less than amused by it. :D

Here, Riker's apparent replacement is even more informal than the deleted Commander Madden was
