Worst tos episode

How could any TOS episode possibly be WORSE than "The Way to Eden"?

I do love the fact that when Charles Napier (Adam) later did DS9's "Little Green Men", he asked to play the most un-Adam role possible. So there he was as the cigar-chomping Army general.
Because they made The Savage Curtain, The Empath, Turnabout Intruder, and Catspaw.

Each of these, including the Way to Eden, have redeeming qualities in my eyes. Only "And the Children..." is more or less a total waste for me. Although I suppose even that one is useful as a control group, i.e., a reminder that for the most part TOS aspired to something more than just outer space monster of the week type-stuff, and that therefore I shouldn't feel *too* self-conscious rewatching it (again) 50 + years after it's off the air

Without "The Empath," there could not have been Ruteshouser & Foley's short story, "The Healing Arts" (SNW II).

I will note that when I read Blish's footnote (Star Trek 5, page 119) about the music of "The Way To Eden" ("I much regret that I cannot reproduce the music which went with this script; it was of very high quality . . ."), I wondered just what he'd been smoking. (He wasn't talking about the underscore, which appears [based on the Wikipedia article] to have been mostly recycled Fred Steiner cues; he was talking about the songs, which were [again, according to Wikipedia] written by two of the guest stars themselves{!} [According to Memory Alpha, it was Charles Napier and the boyfriend of Deborah Downey who composed the music -- still {!}])

Even a couple of earlier episodes rank lower for me than "Spock's Brain." But I get it, we're all different. I just automatically go to "yeah that's the one everyone says" like naming "City on the Edge of Forever" as the very best, when I see flaws in that episode which rank it lower for me than others.
I don't like Spock's Brain because of the way the threat of the week is treated. It just gets over the top (yes, even by TOS standards) and the civilizations feel too stupid to survive in places.

And Balance of Terror is the very best.
i don’t know why it’s regarded as one of the worst episodes it is a little bit cringeworthy but overall it’s not that bad in my opinion
To me it's laughable. It doesn't feel like a threat, the whole "Friendly Angel" thing is a limp noodle in the danger, and its' not very enjoyable.
TOS S3 And The Children Shall Lead

Hands down the absolute worst episode of TOS by a Parsec.

"Hail, Hail, Fire and Snow. This episode has got to go.. ."
Agreed.

The Way to Eden is just painful to watch. The space hippies are a cliche. The extended musical numbers stop whatever meager plot there is cold. Kirk comes off as weirdly stodgy and I don't really buy Spock as someone who "reaches" the space hippies.

I absolutely buy it, given his history with Sybok. It makes absolute sense that he is more understanding then anyone else, given his own unique balance in life. I wouldn't be surprised if Sybok and Sevrin were associates at some point.

As mentioned up thread, Star Trek in general and Spock in particular were quite popular on college campuses. So I think they were trying to reach that audience while simultaneously trying to comment on “the movement “.

Weren’t the songs a distraction so the hippies could instigate their scheme? Been I while since I watched .
