Worst opening. Best opening.

While watching the beginning of "Dear doctor" I was thinking "This has to be the worst opening every. Phlox feeding animals and chattering to himself. No suspense. Nothing to make me keep watching.

That made me wonder, what do others think is the worst opening and what is the best opening?

I have not decided on the best opening yet. Probably a Xindi episode.

"Twilight" gets my vote for best opening. Total confusion, followed by seeing the Earth blown up. Like TNG's "Cause and Effect," there's no way you're not going to keep watching after that. Just the look on T'Pol's face as we see the planet exploding...wrenching. Completely riveting.

It's ruined more than a bit by the cheery opening theme, which kind of undersells what we've just seen.

"Impulse" is my runner-up. Short but surprisingly intense, you just have to keep watching to see what's happening.

Worst one...can't think of it, because it was probably so vanilla it didn't make an impression. Nothing jumps out at me.

The opening of IaMD would seem to qualify for Best - You think you know what you're watching (good recreation, btw) and then it goes horribly, horribly wrong. And those credits!!!

I suspect the Worst is from S1 or S2, but really, like I'd remember a boring opening... :)

Word.

2nd best: "Twilight" (though overall not even close to one of my favorite episodes... the opening was pretty darn "Whaaaa???" ;) )

Can't think of a bad one... 'cuz I don't bother to remember junk. :p

Worst opening: Horizon. Travis is in the "sweet spot" reading a book and then he's summoned to the bridge or something. Bleah.

Best opening: I'd say a tie between The Expanse and Twilight (which makes sense since they are intimately related).

ETA: I agree with IAMD... totally awesome teaser and credits...

For Best Opening, the first one I thought of was "Impulse." Then "Twilight."

And I can't think of a "Worst" either. I'm a Phloxist, I don't dwell on negatives... ;)

Worst opening is definitely Marauders - watching the shuttlecraft fly over some aliens and land. Riveting stuff :p

^More proof of why I don't remember the Worst opening. :)

BTW, who's your avatar and how do I get his number?

One of my favorites is Bound.
T'POL: A Vulcan science vessel surveyed the seventh planet over fifty years ago. The file states it's an M class world with a flourishing ecosystem. No intelligent life.
ARCHER: Sounds promising.
T'POL: They did report one distinctive feature which bears mentioning.
ARCHER: And that is?
T'POL: A species of flying reptile, some reportedly over two hundred metres long. They're also said to breathe fire. [beat] There's been lingering questions over the accuracy of this report.
ARCHER: Can't wait to find out.

T'Pol's deadpan delivery is hilarious.

Along the same lines, in Civilization, when Archer comes ambling into the Situation Room, asking what's new. The bridge crew tell him all about these mundane astrological things, and he's trying hard to act like he's interested. Then Trip uncorks the fact that they've found an inhabited "Minshara" class planet. Archer looks at T'Pol, all accusing, like "You could have put that at the top of the list." Again, T'Pol's blank face completely belies the fact that she was in on the joke.

Best: "In a Mirror, Darkly." Fantastic use of footage from First Contact.
Worst: "Unexpected." Golly-gee, Captain, looks like our gravity generator's malfunctioning!
Runner-up: "Daedalus." Awkaaaaard...

Best: "Twilight" (Earth gets blown up), "Similitude" (Trip's dead), "In a Mirror Darkly, Part I" (Cochrane shoots the Vulcan).

Worst: Any episode where nothing particular happens in the opening.

Oh, I love Unexpected's teaser! For an episode that could easily have been written darker, the teaser sets the tone perfectly. And it's a nice chance to see the kind of physical comedy that Scott Bakula excelled at in Quantum Leap.

As for Daedalus' teaser, it does end on an odd beat. Weird. But I do love how Archer simply bounds up to the transporter and kisses Danica. That right there inspired a whole fanfic, fully formed.

There was also one where Trip was sitting playing his harmonica before coming to the bridge.

Believe it or not, I actually enjoy teasers that are mundune from time to time....as in real life, thing aren't always riveting and exciting all the time. It's exactly this attitude that makes me enjoy Enterprise so much.

Star trek wise I think that it was no the best opening however none star trek wise I think the opening was very good! :rommie:

Enterprise had so many pointless teasers in which nothing happened, it was a miracle sometimes that one even made it past the credits. Apparently, many casual viewers didn't.
