Worst Guest Star?

Red Ranger

Admiral
In Memoriam
People,

I remember seeing a thread asking everyone who their favorite guest stars have been through all the ST incarnations. Here is the flip side:

Who, in your opinion, was the worst guest star in all the ST shows?

My nomination for worst has to go to Jason Alexander in that Think Tank ep of VOY. I thought he was completely miscast -- not to mention I found the ep a bore.

Let the games begin!

Jason Alexander just didn't live up to the hype that surrounded his appearance on the show, just like Joel Grey, Paul Williams, Iggy Pop, Richard Kiley, Mick Fleetwood and that cooking show woman on ENT. It would have helped had any of those episodes been well written.

How many well written episodes had shitty guest stars?? That would spark a more thoughtful debate.

Probably. The first thing that popped into my mind when I saw this was Meg Foster.

Not her fault that the script for "The Muse" sucked out loud, I guess.

I suppose for someone that appeared in decent episodes, I'll go for whoever played Nechayev, who always came off a little too mustache-twisty for my tastes. I don't think it was particularly on the page, either.

I dunno, I didn't think Alexander, Grey, or Iggy Pop were bad (actually I rather liked Iggy's interaction with Ishka regarding skin products) but I think all those listed were under (or not at all) utilized.

I hate to say it, but I think the Rock in 'Tsunkatse' on Voyager was the most cringeworthy for me. I knew why he was there, and it was a part he was clearly suited for, but it was so painfully obvious why he was there - stunt casting to get crossover viewers from Smackdown to Voyager. I think the guy is actually a decent actor when allowed to be, and very likeable and charming, but he was just there for stunt casting in this case.

Really, that whole episode pretty much sucked. They even poorly used Jeffrey Combs and J.G. Hertzler. The humanity!

I really didn't like Andy Dick in that episode of Voyager.
Personally, that particular episode (Message In A Bottle) actually let me like Andy Dick for an hour! Not to mention the fact that he and Robert Picardo have got genuinely great chemistry when they're sparring.

I can't actually think of any exceptionally bad performances in the whole of Star Trek that really stand out. Perhaps I'm just naturally generous that way... :D

Lazarus from "The Alternative Factor'. Not only did this ep have an incomprehensible script, weak direction and a silly spaceship prop, but a confusing character(s) and a lame actor playing it.

It was the perfect storm of crapitude!

I have to say that "The Maquis" was a superb two-parter in virtually all respects except for the performance of Bernie Casey as Cal Hudson. I don't know what went wrong there.

He wasn't torturously bad or anything, but he didn't live up to those around him, and you notice it more in a potent episode like that.

I am sure Melvin Belli was worse in TOS "And the Children Shall Lead," but that wasn't a very substantive part, whereas the Cal Hudson role in "The Maquis" was pretty major.

UGH! Yes! Jason Alexander :P

I really didn't like Andy Dick in that episode of Voyager.

Andy Dick wa son Voyager? Whoa! :wtf:

This I got to see. Know what episode it was?

Sean

USS Kongo: It's called Message in a Bottle. Dick plays the Mark II EMH, in service aboard Federation starship USS Prometheus, a vessel hijacked by Romulans. The Doctor's program winds up on the ship, which is in the Alpha Quadrant. I also think it's one of the few times Andy Dick wasn't as obnoxious as he normally is. -- RR

Andy Dick, hands down.

And this guy

Thanks, Ranger.

Wasn't that the Romulan defector whom Spock talked into going back home? I recall Riker made it a point to keep referring to him as ensign.

I don't know how this hasn't been mentioned yet, but Vanessa Williams for "Let He Who Is Without Sin"

^^
I did kinda like Vanessa Williams in that DS-9 episode, my vote has to go to Andy Dick also. For being a EMH Mk II, he totally sucked. I find it hard to believe that Dr Zimmerman would have allowed such a total dorkus as the model EMH that was supposed to replace our beloved Doc

Whoever played the princess in ENT's "Precious Cargo." She reminded me of the twin princesses from MST3K's "Deathstalker and the Warriors from Hell."
