Worst gig an actor took

Ben Kingsley in Bloodrayne.
And pretty much every other A- or B-list Actor who ever agreed to star in a Uwe Boll movie.
Christian Slater, Jason Statham and Ray Liotta spring to mind immediately.

Travolta in Battlefield: Earth

Funny you should mention that: watching Ed Wood for the first time last night was what put the issue on my mind. And that was an amazing performance.

My point about Peter Sellers and Casino Royale was that if he was upset enough to walk out on a film in progress, then he might consider it his worst experience working on a film, even if his audience doesn't consider it his worst performance.

Has Bela Lugosi in any Ed Wood film been brought up yet? He was unemployed, living in poverty and drug-addicted and took the roles because he didn't have anything else. That's about as low as you can get.

From one perspective, yes, but if there's any truth to the Burton film's version of the tale, Lugosi found it personally rewarding to be getting work once again and to be friends and colleagues with Wood. Of course the film was highly dramatized, but it was at least somewhat based in fact.

Although, again, maybe I'm the only one here defining "worst gig" from the actor's perspective rather than the audience's.

Brent Spiner in Master of Disguise.

I adore Brent Spiner but Sweet Jesus that movie sucks big time.

John Wayne in The Conqueror. Not only was he miscast as Genghis Khan (!), but shooting near an atomic testing site may have contributed to his death by cancer years later.

And then, of course, there was Vic Morrow and Twilight Zone: The Movie.

Yeah. Those two, having KILLED the actors, pretty much have to top everything else anyone can think of.

With that in mind, I'll mention Burt Reynolds' decision to turn down the Jack Nicholson role in "Terms of Endearment" for yet another race car redneck movie (don't ask me which one).

Oh, hell, yes, I'd forgotten about that! There were just a few small moments in that movie that were cute, but mostly I just felt so embarassed for Dana Carvey and Brent Spiner. Ugh. Even my kids (who were 9 and 12 at the time) thought it was horrible.

One that a friend of mine saw, 'Pocket Money' with Paul Newman in it. They said it was so bad that they walked out of the theater.

I think the "gig" that killed most actors/actress' carears was the:
"Star Wars Christmas special"
I've only seen clips from that and I shuddered. it was pretty bad.

Bad, sure, but it didn't kill any careers. There were two more very successful Star Wars movies after it aired. Harrison Ford went on to a huge movie career. Mark Hamill didn't have similar success on the big screen but eventually began a highly successful career as a voice actor. And the comedy guest stars such as Harvey Korman and Bea Arthur continued to have successful television careers afterward.

And heck, it launched Boba Fett's career.

I love the story about Michael Richards after he did Coneheads, apparently for a while he personally doled out compensation for fans who told him that they saw him in Coneheads. The cameo was weak but... wow. Was he ever crushed that he took that gig.

I'll add Peter Lawford in Angel's Brigade/Revenge. Not that Lawford was a master thespian, but for one who had been a top box-office draw, Kennedy spouse, and original Rat Packer it was quite a low ebb.

Of course, Academy-award winning actor Jack Palance was in the same flick, so at least Lawford had company.
