Worst gig an actor took

Hey, ZR -- no problem. I was joking -- in an utterly appalled way -- about the warning (my eyes are still watering from that picture), but the name "Zardoz" is perhaps not as well-known as you might think. I have no idea what it is, and wouldn't have been clued in by the file name. But no offense taken, really!

Believe it or not, ZARDOZ was directed by John Boorman, who also directed DELIVERANCE and EXCALIBUR. At one time, it was a very high-profile sci-fi film.

Lady Gaga's "Bad Romance" video seems to reference ZARDOZ. She even wears a similar red outfit at one point! :)

Things that come to mind
Zardoz
Cage in most of his roles, but the remake of Wicker Man takes the cake...
the first Casino Royal...
any actor in a Uwe Boll film.
though TV tropes, which is rapidly approaching the list of "Super awesome websites" has a classic "Bruce Boxleitner in The Mockbuster Transmorphers: Fall of Man. This being a freaking Mockbuster, it can't be any other reason. Hell, anything he's done apart from TRON and Babylon 5 probably does."

Bring em Back Alive and the Scarecrow and Mrs King were ok though! I haven't seen it but a friend of mine said he'd seen a Boxleitner pilot that involved WW2 fighter planes being converted into high speed cars that were used to fight the Japanese...amazingly this was not picked up!

I've seen Zardoz once...thet's preceisely one time to many! I think Connery's better choices have obviously been down to luck given how many lousy films he's made over the years. At least Caine took most of his bad roles knowingly!

Dennis Hopper in Super Mario Brothers.

He once said in an interview that his son asked him why he took that part. Dennis explained: well, you needed new sneakers so daddy needed a job. His son was quiet for a moment, then replied: I didn't need new sneakers that bad.

Dennis Hopper will do any old shite though.

I really don't think Casino Royale belongs with those others. Yes, the Bond purists scoff because it's not part of the official series and yes, even as a spoof it's not without its problems, but it can't in seriousness be called the worst gig ever for any of the principals involved.

Peter Sellers might disagree. Didn't he walk out in the middle of the production, which was part of the reason it was so disjointed?

I don't think he walked out for artistic reasons. Wasn't the story that he stormed off because of sort of personality conflict with Orson Welles? Or rather that his ego was threatened by Welles?

And given that Sellers' final film was The Fiendish Plot of Fu Manchu, I'm not sure Casino Royale rates as some sort of nadir!

There would seem to be a number of versions of what happened, including one in which Sellers was fired for erratic behavior including frequent departures from the script, failure to appear on the set for days at a time and a refusal even to be in the studio when Orson Welles was present. I suspect we may never know exactly what happened, and anything about it being anyone's worst gig is necessarily speculation. What's reasonably certain is that shooting it was a messy business which ran far over schedule and required significant editing and rewrites to fix or replace scenes which were supposed to feature Sellers but for which some of his parts were never filmed. What they finally ended up with was pretty entertaining, though.
