Okay.. so its not exactly a hoverboard and more of a high power quad-copter that a human can stand on... Let the green goblin jokes begin!

Not all that new

I'd rather have this
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Williams_X-Jet

It could "stay aloft for up to 45 minutes and travel at speeds up to 60 miles per hour."

That's what a gas turbine gives you.

It is what all discerning super-villains should have.

Use it as a lectern, do your monologue and drown out all the bothersome questions from the reporters with the shriek of jetstream as you fly to your awaiting dirigible.

You have to know how to make a good exit too, you know.

There is still the question of if it can be made feasible. e.i., something that is affordable and safe enough that most middle-class parents will be willing to buy them, if the fuel source has enough longevity for more than 10 minutes and is easy and affordable to replace.

There is also the safety issue of what happens when the power source starts to run out, which I why I don't think we'll ever see a real jet pack that can be used for fun, at least not with a chemical fuel source. Can it be programmed to automatically start to come down when the power is running low, to prevent the craft and user from falling out of the sky?

Looks small enough to fit in most garages though.
