World of Warcraft: Warlords of Draenor

I am getting SO effing nostalgic. God. I was watching a MLP episode tonight and there was a scene that reminded me of a dungeon in Zangamarsh. I was like OHHHH I miss that.. really over the top emotional response.

Some of it is tainted with bitterness though because of stuff I miss being now, missing. Like that huge Alliance story chain in Darkshire with the sad ending.

I spent a lot of time with bank alts. Making all the pets account bound sucked because there was nothing I liked more than giving my lvl 1 a hyacinth mccaw and annoying people because of the waste  Now of course it is meaningless.

Years ago I had a whole drama troupe of lvl 1's that performed plays. And art installations. I could get one of those people back into it but the others are off WoW now. That was a great time! And so many other great and very different great times..

Do dungeons still have cooldown periods?

Who is Warchief now?

Stopped early MoP, :(

OH and speaking of long quest chains there was one you did for an Mag'har rep on horde in Nagrand that was awesome. You had to complete a bunch of odd stuff before it opened up. Hero of Mag'har, at the end there was a cut scene where Thrall showed up.

I got so sad when I found out new players today don't get to meet Stitches in Duskwood :(

I miss the feeling of accomplishment with my human priest sitting in Ironforge on a swift white kitty after doing a shit-ton of nelf quests to get exalted with Darnassus. Now with account-wide mounts it's completely meaningless.

Yes.

Vol'jin :ouch:

He is not there at ALL? I know that story line is gone.

Making all the quest lines linear in Cat was crap, absolute crap. I loved all the stupid obscure little things you could do, or not do if you didn't want to. Now it's just start here, proceed down this road.

That's still in the game. Most BC stuff is still more or less intact.

In some ways I like the new model of questing better. In classic there was an awful lot of running back and forth, from one central town to quest area, and again and again. I also think Blizz have gotten better at pretending all this errand-running ("I require 12 bear asses") is part of some story.

But yeah, we've lost some of the potential for exploration and just immersing yourself in a zone as you travel from A to B. In some zones like Stonetalon I was transported from one little set-piece scenario or battle to another with no real sense of how it all fits together.

[edit] and yeah, you don't get Elites charging around murdering clueless newbies anymore. Kind of sad. That huge Gronn in nagrand got reduced to a non-elite. I'm glad the Fel Reaver can still insta-murder you.

It is sad. Phasing offers cool opportunities to tell coherent stories and design quests that offer cool, lasting-impact kind of set pieces, but it also takes away something that makes MMOs different from other games - that certain element of randomness and sometimes utter chaos, when people just sorta cluelessly stumble into things triggered by other players.

Similarly, linking servers together to make things look more lively in the open world and allowing for cross-realm matchmaking all improve the game in very meaningful ways, but all of these new features also took away things that I enjoyed about the game. I enjoyed for instance having to worry about your character's reputation on your server, and I enjoyed recognizing people I had met earlier. I enjoyed talking to people, these days I hardly bother anymore. They're not from your server most of the time, they will never meet you again and also, why the hell would anyone talk to anyone if everything can be facerolled (instances) or soloed (quests) up to the levelcap? Many people you meet will not even respond to tells.

God I miss some of the old epic travel quests. Probably the most extreme in the game was the old druid water form quest. You got teh quest at level 10 while still in Darnassus. To complete the quest you had to go to the coast of Westfall. Remember, this is before there was a boat from Darn to SW, so unless you had help from a mage, you had to travel on foot from Darn to the boat in Rachet. Then run from Booty Bay north to westfall while aggroing everything within a 10 mile radius because level 10. Just for water form.

Yeah there was some great, long, ridiculous stuff! Plus all that great exploring, like getting your lvl 2 from Stormwind to Booty Bay and feeling you accomplished something.

I don't get why they got rid of the elites like the guy in Nagrand etc.. this nixing of so much random death is sad. Heck when I started playing you still died if you fell into the lava at IF which made total sense.

And hey are all the servers mashed together now? Someone told me mine wasn't. I am trying to look it up bug can't find it atm.

EDIT ah it is merged with another, I found it. Hope it is still the super nice place it once was.

Beta last night was interesting, going through the Dark Portal again was a lot of fun. I'll post a couple of screenshots when I can find the time.

Character copy (which btw happens exclusively in-client now, no longer on your account dashboard) was down yesterday, so I created a pre-made 90.

For some reason these pre-mades have all mounts in existence, including legacy ones that are no longer available (including the ooooooold, pre-armor epic mounts and the BlizzCon bear).

So when we gonna get to ride our AQ bug mounts, when when.
They are ridable everywhere in the beta at the moment.

Edit: Scratch that, it's just the black good ol' Scarab Lord mount I've seen so far (because, as I mentioned, every premade has access to every mount in existence).

Will have to check for the other Qiraji mounts later.

Our server's Scarab Lord was a buddy of mine, and by buddy I mean we exchanged about three lines of chat some day. No wait, it was actually TeamSpeak.

He was a cool dude and well respected by us old school people. Everyone adressed him as Scarab Lord on TeamSpeak as well, which was fun.
