I know I'm a bit late to the party, but I just watched "World Enough and Time", and I just wanted to say that I enjoyed it thoroughly. It was by far the best fan production I've seen, and as far as I'm concerned it would be perfectly acceptable as a professional production.

In past fan productions I've seen, I've admired the effort but found the acting to be an impediment to my full enjoyment. But for this production, I have no complaints. The acting of the series regulars was fine. George Takei was great, and Christina Moses was delightful. The script was excellent and the direction and production top-notch. Kudos to all those involved, and my thanks for a great viewing experience. I'm looking forward to the next one!

Yep, I too am just now getting to these and I absolutely loved this episode! I actually cried as I was completely enthralled and sucked into the story and acting. The production was great, and I was so happy to see George Takei on the excelsior once again.

Awesome job Phase II!

We need more captain Sulu excelsior productions of this quality.

Agreed. For pure drama and great character moments, probably the best script written for a fan film. Cawley's style of "furrowed brow" acting still bugs me a bit, but I just watch Christina Moses instead. John Lim got to shine as well; much the same as Andy Bray in the Chekov episode.

When will they do an Uhura story to finish off the triptych?

When I tell people about Star Trek: Phase II, I usually encourage them to watch "World Enough and Time" first. I think it will connect best with people's memory of TOS. "To Serve All My Days" is my favourite at this point, but because it is so bold, I encourage people to start with "World Enough and Time."

Best fan production ever.

And they should have awarded it with the Hugo (instead of handing it to Doctor Who again the third time in a row).

"They" should have awarded it the Hugo? You mean you didn't participate in the voting? Why not?

You mean I could have participated? Why are you telling me that now?

Here's my old post encouraging everyone to take out a World Science Fiction Society membership so that they can vote for the Hugo-nominated "World Enough and Time."

We have no entries at this year's Hugos (the winners of which will be announced in a week or two). But there's always next year.

That's because Dr. Who deserved it. As good as WEaT is, the Who episode was simply outstanding science fiction. :techman:

True about Cawley, he does need a lot more acting lessons if he has had any. He could use a lot of acting improvement. My favorite episode is In Harm's Way.

I tell them to start with In Harm's Way. That is the best in my book.

"In Harm's Way," imo, is more of a proof-of-concept episode much like "Come What May" before it. There's too much put into the episode and not one clear character arc like there is in "To Serve My Days" and "World Enough and Time." Oh sure there's the whole Spock trying to save Pike at the end, but that felt really tacked on almost as an afterthought.

For me, WEAT is when New Voyages/Phase II truly came into its own in terms of storytelling and acting and drama. TSMD was getting there and I enjoyed it very much, and even though I was at the Night in '69 event in LA, I still prefer the original edit and effects over the '69 version but that's just me. WEAT, OTHO, just clicked from beginning to end.

When I first downloaded the episode, which took all day while I was at work, I remember not wanting the damn thing to end as it neared the 40 minute mark. I wanted it to go one because I was so captivated by story and characters.

And "Blood and Fire" is turning out to be a notch above WEAT. Can't wait for Part II!

Yeah, I'd have to agree. The fan film hasn't been made that I would vote for ahead of stuff like the DW episodes that have been nominated in recent years. And I really liked WEAT.

To me Blood and Fire went too far with the gay part of the episode. I'll never watch another episode, they have lost this fan.
Funny how people want Trek shows to deal with "issues" until it's an issue they disagree with...

And, really, it's two guys in a RELATIONSHIP. That people can find that offensive but dig scenes like someone being eaten alive really disappoints me.

LOL

Well, it's not like the folks from New Voyages/Phase II are losing money by losing viewers... so they probably don't care. I certainly wouldn't. Then again, there's probably nothing in "Blood and Fire" you wouldn't also see on "Torchwood". :)

For someone who's lost, you spend an awful lot of your time coming back to remind people that you've gone.

Yet still, no one actually cares.

As I've posted before, the number of viewers who "left" our series because of the content of "Blood and Fire, Part 1"--if indeed they ever really did "leave" (talk is cheap)--was far surpassed by the number of new viewers, fans, and supporters we garnered because of the episode's content. So when you net it all out, from a business standpoint as well as a creative standpoint, finally producing "Blood and Fire" after twenty years was one of the best decisions we have made.
