World Cup 2010 - South Africa Thread

I halfway wonder what the TV ratings will be here for the US game tomorrow. The general reaction I got from people I've talked to was that they would check it out for a bit if they were home, but weren't going to plan their day around it.

The game is on around noon, right? You think that'll be good or bad for the ratings?

Yeah, but why the hell did they not replace him after Euro'08? France was a frakking joke there!

No idea, it's something between the FFF and Domenech.

And re: France v Uruguay - normally I would clearly be rooting for Uruguay, but if France wins I'll at least know Carrie will be pleased, which is alright with me too. ;)

Aww, you're forgetting that I'm a PSG fan ;)

Eh, I'm over that really. It still hurts, but if your team never loses, you can't know what victory feels like either. ;)

I know, I was teasing you ;) (but apparently I will have to find something else and to that I have only one thing to say : zut).

Hehehe. It's more a case of being behind the times. I stopped caring about football some time after the last World Cup.

Well, this is a boring game. And why does France only have one forward on the field? That never works.

I'll be the first to admit I'm just getting into soccer, so forgive any future newbie questions.

I was really impressed by the South African goalie, especially the save he made in the first half, sprawling out.

Is Thierry Henry too old to be in the starting French line-up now?

Go Uruguay!

I wondered why Henry didn't play, too. I thought that he might be injured, like so many other stars, but apparently not.

Actually there are rumors that Domenech didn't even want him to go to South Africa...I don't really know why, I'm not (thankfully) in Domenech's brain.

And NO, 31 years old IS NOT old :shifty:

France looking a reasonable side so far - certainly better than Uruguay in the first half. Not putting things together up front though. They need to be able to score.

Could be worse, could be better. It's not as desperate as I feared it (and now that I've said that, they will play like shit during the 2nd half  )

France has dominated this match, I'm surprised they aren't up 3-0.
Nah. Uruguay have let them dominate the midfield, actual good chances for France are relatively rare. However Uruguay are also quite hesitant to go forward.

I wonder if Uruguay will try to open up a bit towards the end.

Fully deserved that one (the sending off that is).

Edit at full time: Not quite what you'd like for the first day of a WC ... two draws. Oh well. That group's going to be interesting.
