Worf under Sisko's Command

Photon

Commodore
Commodore
Worf always showed great respect for his leaders (Picard and Sisko)but a step farther-almost seemingly revernce-it was Sisko.
Points:
I think Worf was impressed that Sisko dressed as a Klingon and acted as one and took some down in the ceremony at Tig'r'kor
Worf screwed up under Sisko more and got that butt chewed more-but like many good soldiers, he grew and respected his commander more b/c of it.
Sisko would mix it up w/anyone, including the Jem'hadar and of course there's nothing Klingons respect more.
Chief, not once but twice said he (Sisko) was the best he'd ever served under and one of them was directly to Worf (WoW) and other was The Advesary
Sisko had expierenced pain much like (or greater) than Worf-losing a wife and raising a son
Aside from Odo, he knew Sisko could take him in hand to hand.

Now the question. Why did Worf screwup so many times on DS9?

Change of position.

Worf went from security to command, it was an adjustment and a learning experance. Sisko was tough on Worf because he knew he could handle it while at the same time teaching him things he needed to understand in his new position.

Remember Worf is also intimidated by Sisko, Ezri says so in Afterimage.

I think that Worf admire Sisko so much because Sisko is pretty much a soldier like Worf. Picard was a diplomat & explorer and Worf respected him for it, but Sisko is sort of like his soulmate Captain. Sisko was a fellow soldier and Worf says in an episode in the sixth season that he has the heart of a warrior.

Sisko also seems to be a more "hands off" commander than Picard and a "gloves off" commander too,if you see what I mean.

I think you hit the nail right on the head.

Me too. Worf (and O'Brien for that matter) were happy to respect Picard for all of his talents and were happy to serve under him in the situations the Enterprise was in, but they're both soldiers at heart, or at least have been made soldiers by their past in O'Brien's case, and so the more hands-on Sisko, not afraid to get his hands dirty, intimidating and with the 'heart of a warrior' suited them better, especially in a brewing war situation.

Good pt. Miles played down his combat experience but he was , too a warrior. Never trusted any Carddy or jem'hadar, suprised he and Garak never mixed it up.

I just found in Star Trek: The Magazine the results of a poll that was conducted on an Army Base a few years ago in their Designing Sisko article. In it they state that most soldiers would prefer to serve with Sisko rather than any other Captain.

Pretty obvious, I think... After all, the other Trek COs were all Navy! ;)

Seriously, Sisko had the most Army-like job of them all also in the respect that he seldom had to perform intricate diplomacy with faraway natives or competing empires, like sea captains of old did. There'd be less moral ambivalence and wish-wash there, and thus automatically more of a military feel to Sisko's command. If Sisko played the diplomacy game, it was more on the vein of two hostile but stalemated military commanders negotiating the best possible way out of their rut without violating their oaths and orders. Since Sisko didn't make his own orders nearly as often as the starship captains did, he'd be much more believable a military commanding officer.

Worf would like that, too. Big decisions make his head hurt. :p

Yeah but if you noticed during the series, O'Brian keeps his distance from Garak.

The reason I feel that Miles never talked about his combat experience, as that would be pride. Second, there are a number of people that have been in the military that hate to talk about what they did during a war. With Miles, there are a number of other people that did the same as he did. So to talk about something that others have done is to show pride and being stupid to show it.

I would think he doesn't talk about it because of things he saw & did he isn't proud of.

Most that don't talk about their experances in war do so because they aren't proud of the death and killing they had to do. My Grandfather served in WWII and my fathers friends in Vietnam, none of them will talk about their experances. Even when asked they become quiet and withdrawn.

I have family that has been in the wars also. I do not think of it as he is not proud of being in the military. It is just that talking about killing people is not a good subject to talk about.

If someone wants to talk about the amount of people they had to kill in a war, then they enjoy killing people. Think about this, if they enjoy killing people during a war, they want to live out that fantasy during peace time. If you want to live out a fantasy that happen in real life in the past, what is going to stop them from wanting to act out their fantasy again in real life?

I could swear I just said this.
