Wonder Woman's new look: At long last, pants!

So it is. Wasn't intentional, this was just a modification of a similar Donna Troy design I did a while back, which believe it or not had even more cleavage than this. I just placed the straps where they felt natural, scaled the "WW" clasp thing to about the size that looked right and positioned it where it fit the best. If it's that distracting I can move it up and cover her up a bit more.

[edit] Damn. Now that you've gone and pointed it out it's starting to bug me. So I went and fixed it anyway.

^ Why didn't I think of that.

And what do you mean 1980s? She'll wear it again, as soon as she's past this black starfield phase.

I've always believed the starfield thing holds the key to WW's star-spangled dilemma. Just make her knickers a magical image of some Greek constellation that gives her knicker-powers, and you're no longer faced with an overtly American heroine.

I just realized, I have already forgotten what the new costume looks like. When I close my eyes, I can't remember. It's generic. It's forgettable.

I have to agree 100%. Never mind the argument that some people have that WW should be dressed in a potato sack because oooo something skimpy is sexist oooo - the fact is the design they've chosen is just dull.

Anyway, I read the intro story to the reboot in 600. It was pretty obvious to me this change is just for a story arc. They've even telegraphed the reset button.

As long as they leave Power Girl's cleavage alone, they can do what they want! ;)

Seriously, though, I don't see this as being at all permanent. The infamous "Diana Prince, Wonder Woman" reboot of the 1960s went away eventually. And for those crying "sexism" regarding WW's costume, in my opinion those arguments are forever invalidated thanks to Gloria Steinhem, the matriarch of the feminist movement, who not only put WW -- swimsuit and all -- on the cover of Ms. Magazine #1, but she was one of the driving forces behind DC ultimately abandoning the "Diana Prince, Wonder Woman" approach and going back to basics.

I'm half expecting to see Camille Paglia raising a stink this time around.

I do actually like the new look, it's about time they gave her something a little more practical looking. Still, it didn't stop me from having a stab at it myself! ;)

Obviously they'll get back to the classic outfit sooner or later, this is just to serve the new arc they're playing with and it serves it's function well enough I think.
Superhero+Practical=Boring.

Not quite happy with it, but working on this shoulder-less version a bit this evening:

Well done. Seriously, that looks great.

I realize it doesn't quite fit with the new timeline "urban environment" storyline, but I'm assuming that gets (semi) reversed, and when it does I hope to see something like above. I'd like to see the WW a little more pronounced though, just so she has a clearer identification like Superman's S or Batman's bat-symbol.

Here's a question I don't know the answer to--WW has had different costumes, but has Diana ever had a substantially different haircut that can't be chalked up to differing art styles?

(And since the Silver Age--I recall WW2 Hippolyta having some kind of Blondie style.)

More than that, Hippolyta went from a brunnette in the Golden Age to a blonde in the Silver age and back to brunnette in the Modern Age.

Some variation over the years

She hade the curls and tucked behing the ears look for the 40s-60s. Went longer, fuller, straighter and over the ears in the 70s and 80s. Super curly with the Perez reboot. And then the abomination of the post Perez Wonder Hooker look of shorter, straight and bangs.

Wonder Hooker actually has the most radically different haircut--and probably the nicest.

But then I hate black, curly hair for some reason, which is why Marina Sirtis and Morena Baccarin passed me by. : /

PS: 70s WW should ease way up with the rouge. That's your Wonder Hooker right there (although, yes, I recognize it to be an overzealous colorist dealing with the tools of the day :p ).
