Wonder Woman's new look: At long last, pants!

How WW should look...BUZINGA!
I have to confess that my reaction was something like this::ack::cardie::confused:
I must respond to that with this:cool::

CBR has an nice article about Wonder Woman costume over the years:bolian::
http://www.comicbookresources.com/?page=article&id=26963
(sorry if this was posted before..)
I have to say that the white overals look quite horrible:lol:
But the orginal and iconic one really holds it place, in my opinion anyway, and its been nicely tweeked over the years.
And its true that the orginal was created because WW was fighting the Nazis..and was/is the her peoples ambassador to the USA.
I never had problem with the "star-spangled" desing and it never scared me away with being "too American".
Im confused why the "Americalism" is even an issue:confused:
..unless one is fanaticly anti-American and hates everything from Hollywood to hamburgers:shifty:

Im still amazed of how much media attention this gets, all over the World:cool: Im pretty sure that WW will get some new fans with this...at least for few issues or trades worth.
I wonder if we would have similar conversation, if Batman would again get a new suit...well, maybe if it would be pink:D

Yeah Lynda is the classic, there was never an actor/actress who personified a superhero/superheroine so perfectly. Saw her on stage in Chicago and she's still hot.

That pics from the ep with Roddy McDowell where she get's enslaved (yet again!) as a living waxwork, yes?

The proposed new outfit reminds me too much of Witchblade, not that I dislike that but WW should always look like an ultra-patriotic S&M hooker, realism has no place in superheroine outfits

I like it. They need to modernise it somehow. I think doing away with the US-style stars would be a start, she's from a Greek island, y'know. Jacket? I dunno, she goes places where it's cold. As someoen said right at the start, it's less revealing but more sexy, and I do like that in a lady. :)

^Pretty much sums it up for me too.

I will always hold Ms. Marvel up as a far better example of a true superheroine. She, probably, holds the same place in the Marvel universe as Wonder Woman does in DC's yet we get no pseudo-feminism, no comments about the treatment of women in "man's world" and certainly no concept of her representing her entire gender.

I doubt those who would criticise Wonder Woman having a child or even just a boyfriend have actually bought a comic book in their lives anyway (*). I thought feminism was supposed to broaden women's choices, not limit them. Because she's the International Representative of the Entire Female Gender she can't have sex ? Talk about your Female Eunuch!

Compare her to Ms. Marvel who, in her own book, juggling her efforts to improve her public image, two potential suitors and leadership of two superhero teams, while trying to sneak in a few games of Bejeweled. This is because Carol Danvers is a normal person when she takes the costume off.

(* - Actually, I would criticise her having a boyfriend or a child - but only if she did what she did with Nemesis again, i.e. lead him on in order to get pregnant. That's a little bit too on the nose for me.)

Same thing also for She-Hulk, Invisible Woman, Storm, Spider-Girl, and all of the other ladies in the Marvel Universe, I'd say.

And for what it's worth, I love the new costume, jacket and all. It gives Wonder Woman an added bonus; she can take off the tiara, close up the jacket somewhat, cover the bracelets with the jacket, and just look like a normal person on the street until her abilities are needed. Then she puts on all of the magical stuff, and kicks butt.

Personally, I'm still baffled as to why people are worried about the contemporaneity of the style. Or believe it's street clothing.

Why do people think putting rowel-less spurs on your stocking feet makes sense as anything but a Halloween costume? The woman doesn't have shoes on! No one in their right mind wants a metal bar pushing up against the arch of the foot.

That jacket is semi-formal dressup, not street wear. An semi-formal leotard?

None of this fits the new backstory. None of this fits the old backstory.

There's nothing wrong with wearing a flag if there's a reason for it.

Funny... those sure don't look like Valkyries she's leading....
So you must be an American and/or wear the American flag to protect the United States? I get that the character might have a bit of an immigrant angle (just like Superman is from outer space but he's American!); but that doesn't necessitate the big garish flag costume.

Yeah, I mean, I sort of get it, if you fight Nazis you get to wear an Allied flag, but you don't see Namor in a star-spangled speedo.

But beyond the silliness, why she should wear "patriotic" attire from the US? She's an Amazon. She is as American as Brunhilde the Valkyrie.
Funny... those sure don't look like Valkyries she's leading....

and ya know... this doesn't quite look like Valhalla she's defending...
Look, it's Namor fighting the Nazi! Quick, throw a flag on him! Now that I think of it, most superheroes are Americans: maybe you should give flag-based costumes to everyone. I'm sure Batman would be happy about it. :p

IIRC in most versions of the WW origin she adopts the colors of symbols of the US as a way to say "I'm with you".
Made sense during WWII. Nowadays, not so much.

Some people reading/watching the (in)famous Fox News had this to comment about WWs new costume:
"I dont think you idiot lefties get it… its just another really minor and obscure example of the trashing anything remotely american since Al Qaeda’s leader obama has taken office! The forces behind the destruction of america want to slowly erode patriotism just as they are slowly eroding our will against fascist islamist terrorists. Now we have a non patriotic wonder woman and a mosque built at ground zero… opening on sept. 11. Stupid americans.. at least 49% of you!"
"I don’t like the new costume. The new one has no appeal. Looks like something an anti-American might put together…"
"The thing I find interesting is that, in minimizing the more patriotic American symbols in her costume, like the stars and the eagle, they managed to leave the Communist red star on the her tiara untouched."

Okayy:vulcan::rolleyes:...seems now also Wonder Woman is a communist:lol:
Such sillines really:D:)

Well, at least they are saying also that we most likely have a Wonder Woman film by 2013..but why wait so much?...im not sure the new costume sticks so long time..

After reading 600, well most of it. I kind'a started to skim when I began to think it sucked, but JMS does that , sucks for a while till you figure out where he is going and then you have to reevaluate everything...

The mythology and characterization is so off (as if JMS has had the time to read any wonder woman comics in the last 20 years? 40 years even?) that I don't think it's Diana or even possibly I don't think it's Earth I?

Um you do know that the DC Primeverse is New Earth not Earth One right? Earth One is that new thing their making Batman and Superman graphic novels for.

Does anybody really think Fox (Not)News gives a S@#t about the changes made to Wonder Woman or any comic book character for that matter?

Exactly. I mean, I'm all for Captain America in his star spangled undies because that's basically all that character is about; but Wonder Woman is also an Amazon and such. I'd actually like a less superheroic costume and something a little more, well, classical (lopped off breast is entirely optional), but that's just me.

In another thread, someone asked if Dr. Stranglove was still relevant. Balderdash, I say.

I like the look. For a temporary AU type tale that we know will lead to her big, dramatic reveal back in her classic costume I dig it. I suspect she'll wear this for about a year, maybe two tops and then it's back to the classic costume (or some interpretation of it without pants or a jacket).

Jesus H. Christ. I was about to say, "what next, Superman without his super-suit?" when I realized we're already there.

I must reiterate: Thank god Raimi has faith in his source material and had Spiderman look like Spiderman. Faith in material is what made Superman TMP such a success. Lack of conviction always shows through.
This new wonder costume will be a bare memory in under 4 years.

Superheroes are a bit ridiculous if you look at them too long and subtlely is not a trait I associate with the genre. Superheroes are big and loud and in your face.

Wich is why later verions of the origin have changed that In the Perez verrsion the costume was a tribute to Diana Trevor. In the Simone version the symbols were purely Amazonian.

I like this new look a lot.
The classic look has always seemed ridiculous to me. Subtlety, meet sledgehammer! :D
But the fan art makes the old costume look cool, too.
Like this movie poster:techman:( very Amazonian this one):

But it seems the new costume has allready inspired some pretty good looking fan art also:bolian:
The face is bit cold, but I like the way the artist made the pants and jacket leather..or leather like:cool::):

Now that I like. That's what I'd expect a G or U-rated Amazonian comic book heroine to look like more or less. Put Wonder Woman in that and I might even see a Wonder Woman movie if it were released.

It's a pretty weak adaptation of a Xena photo or poster. Even has Lawless's hard jaw.

Yeah lets just over look the whole droping the whole making smartass remarks while kicking the bad guys asses and redesigning Osborn's suit because the costume is so damned important

Oh and FYI you are aware that the current batsuit looks a little like a re-colored Nolanverse batsuit and the Bruce wore the Burton version after Knightfall right?
