If other current franchises survive many poor to abysmal entries, any series can move on. In DC's case, in the few films DC's released, there's more strong content than weak productions.

If you're into that creatively bankrupt "grounded" approach. And think the villains should be the real stars of the show.

You know, the old lazy way out.

Speaking of broken records...

If someone asks you what "2+2" is the only answer you give is 4.

That you (emphasis on you) don’t like a “grounded” approach does NOT make it “creatively bankrupt” or a “lazy way out”.

How is it NOT creatively bankrupt or lazy? Being "grounded" is all about sucking all the wonder out of a wondrous story because no one has any faith in the material.

Leave it to someone like Nolan, he'd make the Guardians of the Galaxy a psychotic biker gang on Earth who fight other Bikers.

This is among the most asinine and ridiculous things I’ve read today (and I’ve been marking first year undergrad papers all day, so it’s an astonishing accomplishment).

That's a creatively bankrupt and lazy post! Only "among the most"? Either decide that it's THE most, or give us a ranking such as "32nd most asinine..."

:)

There are no egregious grammatical errors, so it’s not the absolute worst of the day. And I’ve still got a pile to get through, so a final ranking is not possible at this time. ;)

It's not my fault there are still plenty of people who are ashamed of actual comic-booky stuff in movies (the mere existence of the Guardians movies, for one).

Nolan would "ground" them like what he did with the Dark Knight movies. Suck all the wondrous and fantastic out of them and make them Earthbound...he wouldn't even make them aliens.

And you know this because you’re on close terms with him?

I LOVE the Guardians movies AND I thoroughly enjoy the Nolan Batman movies. So your binary world view is wrong on its face. Moreover, your continued harping on the ridiculous notion that a “grounded” interpretation of any superhero is proof of “shame” is patently absurd. It’s simply one approach among many others and is in no way inherently illegitimate.

I enjoy Donner Superman AND Snyder Superman, Guardians and Dark Knight (and many, many others) precisely BECAUSE they have different presentations—“grounded” among them. It would be boring otherwise.

I know how he tells stories and writes characters, as it's quite predictable with him.

Well, it is proof of shame. Being grounded means making it as close to reality and real life as possible. That means you can't have any wondrous elements to it at all. Taking a fantastical setting and then sucking everything fantastical out of it for whatever reason.

If Nolan did a Hulk movie, he would just have Dr Banner be a guy who suffers from Multiple Personalities and not have him transform at all. Hell, his condition would be because he hit his head during a lab accident instead of the Gamma Radiation.

So would making every CBM "grounded", which is what the Anti-MCU people have been preaching for ever since Iron Man came out.

I actually thought the Nolan Batman movies would be better if they were a bit MORE grounded... Batman Begins is a little ruined by the microwave device, for example. Having said that, Rises is the least grounded one, as Nolan went out of his way to display the "rising up" metaphor. If Anwar had his way, Dark Knight Rises would have had Batman fight Bane on the Moon while Bizarro watches on, preparing to fight the winner. Cuz... wondrous.

Nah, I'd have had the League discover the Lazarus Pits and Talia's plan be the one Ra's tried in the 70s to flood the world with the Lazarus chemicals to kill off most of humanity and destroy civilization while revitalizing nature.

Christopher Nolan's Batman films are about as realistic as his films The Prestige, Inception, and Interstellar, which is to say "not at all".

Taking a practical approach to depicting Batman's world doesn't mean that he stripped away all of the otherworldly and fantastical elements from said world, despite the constant claims to the contrary by, in general, people who don't like said films. All it means is that, like others before him (Bryan Singer and Sam Raimi immediately come to mind), he wanted to emphasize the non-fictional elements of Batman's world as much as the fictional.

The DCEU and its directors have taken a similar approach, although the degree to which they've emphasized which elements has varied.

Fans of the Prestige still debate trying to explain away the fantastical elements (the cloning machine) because they can't accept them. Inception is all around pretty silly once you think about it and is driven by the VFX and Interstellar's fantastical elements came from Spielberg.

Pretty sure it DOES mean that. Honestly, if Nolan did Thor he'd made the Asgardians just be a Delusional Cult of Humans.

Singer openly thinks comics are silly, and it's telling that Raimis' most comic booky of his Spider-Man movies (SM3) was the most disliked.

Yeah. Way better to make them aliens.

The first bit of the emboldened part is debatable, but ... what does it tell us? That making a movie "comic booky" can lead to failure?!

Yeah. Way better to make them aliens.

Anwar seems to think that the secret to making a movie comic booky is making it terrible, incoherent, and not bound to any rules whatsoever. Anything can happen. So wondrous. Spider-man is getting beat down by green goblin but..... a magician appears to save him! Yay, drama.

Yeah, but then again, he made this big stink about the deus ex machina at the end of Wonder Woman, so ...
