How would I convert a video .wmv file I have to an MP3
audio file, that wont cost me $7.99 a month like iDesltoptv does?

You're welcome. :)

Are you sure? The website doesn't say a single thing about supporting WMV.

But I don't know that program, maybe it does do it anyway. If that doesn't work, I'm pretty sure that MPEG Streamclip will let you open the video and export the audio as an AIF. Then you can use just about any program (including iTunes) to turn that into an MP3.

2 steps, but it will work.

You could get a free program like Audacity which you can record anything playing threw the sound card. You'll probably have to make some adjustments, like the sampling qaulity, turning off the mic so there is no hiss from the speakers, and maybe some other small adjustments. I use it.

Windows already comes with a sound recorder that will allow you to record any sound that plays through the speakers. It's buried pretty deep, so most people never notice it, but if you just search all files and folers for "sound recorder" it'll pop up.

^^^ Having to actually play the video to get the audio out of it is unnecessarily complicated. Just get a program that instantly extracts the audio from the video file. I use Free Video to MP3 Converter. It's very quick and easy to use.

Yeah, but it's pretty crummy in comparrison to the things and settings something like Audacity has. Anyway, last I checked, didn't WSR have a recording length limit?

A handy little add-on I have for FireFox does this. The Ask & Record Toolbar extracts video from sites like YT, records streaming audio and converts anything that's sitting in it's current save folder.
I did this with several music videos I had downloaded, getting an .mp3 out of it. Only outputs it up to 256 kbps though, not 320.

I've found myself needing to do this on occasion.

My need for it is rare enough that I've just googled up some random shareware software with a limited trial period and used it the once or twice and then uninstalled it afterwards. I guess if I needed to do it more regularly, I'd probably pay for one of those bits of software; they seemed cheap.

Oh, I don't know. I've never used it to record anything longer than a short clip from some old b-movie to use as a sample in a song.
