With Majel gone, now what? (Computer voice and simulations)

Yeah but then with that....you'd start fantasizing about everything but doing your job.

May Majel rest in peace :(

How about holly from Red Dwarf as the new computer voice? :techman:
Norman Lovett's probably getting on in age too, but it gives me an idea: they could say that the Starfleet computer decided to get a sex-change and cast someone like Lovett or Simon Pegg or Alan Rickman (a la Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy).

Deborah Pratt, of Quantum Leap fame, would be a good choice for ST's new computer voice.

Appropriate too:)

Would build upon the 4 years of Captain Beckett perfectly & make-up for Al's disappointing Very Special Guest Star visit on ENT {as that meanie alien general guy}.

DP became/was a QL producer as well.

Is it possible that there's enough in the way of voice-recordings for them to create a simulation of her voice for future projects? (Is this something called "voice sampling"?)

If possible, it'd be an equally great move to still use her for any new lines spoken by the computer.

IS it possible?

Yes, something similar was done with Superman Returns when they used Marlon Brando for Jor-El. However, since we seem to be going into a different type of "universe" for Star Trek with this new film, maybe someone new would be better for the computer voice. We've already had several different computer voices for the Enterprise series and TOS movies. So why not someone new?

We have 2 weeks before the trailer for Trek XII is released.
We may know then if thy used Majel's voice for the computer in that film. If so did they make a library of her voice to use for all Trek because if they did that would be awesome continuity and a great connection always to Roddenberry.
Would a different female voice matter? It wouldn't be cheaper in the long run after the next 2 Trek series in 20 years. Once built a library database could be used for decades since it would be digital.

I think she actually recorded such a library.

Heck, Douglas Rain is still around though in his 80s. Although the computer saying "I'm sorry, Captain. I'm afraid I can't do that" might be unnerving.
