Wish List for Star Trek: 2017

Assuming arc plots are inevitable, I hope they will be careful to also make the individual episodes satisfying. Not just getting from B to C in the season plot.

^ This thought prompted by currently rewatching ENT season 3, though it's pertinent to pretty much all dramatic TV these days.

DS9 struck that balance well, I think. I'd like to see a Trek not only through the stars but also see diversity through the eyes of various roles within the UFP, various three-dimensional alien/human cultures, fantastic combinations of various movie genres like mystery, action/adventure, horror, romance, fantasy. Go big or go broke.

I've just decided that Julia Taylor Ross needs to be in our new series.

Make that happen please.... with pointed ears.

Or alternatively, scripts based on stories written by science fiction authors.
Not to be obtuse, but how would a story written by a science fiction author be superior to one written by a non-science fiction author?

Or any kind of author at all?

Surely a person well skilled in the requirements of writing a television show would be the desired choice.

I always loved the fact that Trek was able to mix genres within itself so well, we could get a comedy one week, a big action story after that, and then a serious character piece. I really hope the new show continues that.

I agree, much as I love shows like BSG they can be one note and relentless in their intensity. I'd rather Trek17 can mix in some lightness and maybe something that has always eluded Star Trek, the self aware irony of shows like Firefly or SG1. I'm not suggesting that the cast are constantly wise cracking but not everything has to be deadly serious all the time.

Oh, this is a sci-fi or fantasy show, they will do some kind of a fight club episode. I think there must be a rule somewhere that it's a requirement.

I sexually identify as an Attack Helicopter. Ever since I was a boy, I dreamed of soaring over the oilfields dropping hot sticky loads on disgusting foreigners. People say to me that a person being a helicopter is impossible and I'm fucking retarded but I don't care, I'm beautiful. I'm having a plastic surgeon install rotary blades, 30 mm cannons and AMG-114 Hellfire missiles on my body. From now on I want you guys to call me "Apache" and respect my right to kill from above and kill needlessly. If you can't accept me, you're a heliphobe and need to check your vehicle privilege. Thank you for being so understanding.

That got me thinking of this old sketch from the final days of Spitting Image (skip to 11:41).
