Wisdom teeth

I had my 4 wisdom teeth taken out a few years ago. I was on local anesthetic so in theory I was awake, but I don't remember any of it.

My mouth hurt for a few days, but with strong painkillers it wasn't too bad.

I had my lowers out in boot camp (1993) and my uppers out in... 2001? 2002? Can't remember. One of the uppers broke in half so I had to have 'em out.

I had all four of mine out when I was 18, during my last year of high school. I don't how necessary it was (they weren't causing me any discomfort, to the best of my recollection), but my dentist recommended I get them removed, so I did.

They knocked me out with something they injected into my hand. I was on the sofa for a day or so, and they gave me some codeine to help numb the pain.

I got them removed on a Friday, but it was the day of the grad dance, so all of my classes were cancelled anyway. By the Monday, I was back at school, so I never even missed anything. Boy, I really don't know how to take advantage of having surgery, do I?

I'm one of the weird ones, I guess...as far as I know my x-rays have never shown any sign of me having any wisdom teeth. Same for my maternal grandmother as well. It did take until I was 16 to get my last set of regular molars, though.

Considering all the other health problems I've had, especially with my ears and sinuses, I'm kinda thankful I didn't have to deal with wisdom as well. Braces were painful enough.

I don't have them either, and as such my temporary retainers have never been removed from when I had braces.

I have all of my wisdom teeth and they have never caused me any trouble. My son (17) just had all 4 of his removed. They were growing partially to totally sideways and causing him pain. He took good drugs and ate soft foods for a few days; within a week he was back to eating normally.

I don't have any wisdom teeth - I was born without them :)

Wuh? was that a joke?

Nobody is born with wisdom teeth and if they are it's a weird one off.

Obviously not. But they are there in your jaw waiting to grow. I do not have wisdom teeth, I never will have wisdom teeth, there are none there.

That's what I meant.

Well, some are born with wisdom teeth. Some develop wisdom teeth later. Others have wisdom teeth thrust upon them.

Me, I have experienced wisdom teeth in my lifetime, however, now I only have one left. [And it clearly shows - everyone]

All of my wisdom teeth started poking out about ten or maybe fifteen years ago. I had them removed in 2003.

I had my bottom ones out a few years ago when I was about 37. My recommendation? Go with the gas or the general anesthetic . I had it done with just a local and having to lay there for an hour hearing my teeth get crunched up wasn't too pleasant.

^ I had all four of mine removed with local anaesthesia and even with all the crunching, hacking, and sawing, it wasn't a big deal. ;)

That's pretty interesting that yours are coming in now!

Had mine out years ago. Definitely have them put you to sleep with an IV if possible. Only make sure someone drives you home. And be warned that the stuff they knock you out with is like truth serum and you may blab about things you'll wish you hadn't later on. I know. It happened to me.

I had the left two wisdom teeth extracted last year, and I'm supposed to go back in and have the right two extracted this year. It was too expensive to have all four done at once as my insurance has a upper limit on expenses per year. On the plus side they gave me vicodin. On the negative side the stitched over areas where my teeth used to be probably bother me just as much as the actual wisdom teeth did. It's not pain exactly but they kind of itch at times. It may be that they haven't fully healed yet. Though, it's been nearly a year.

I had mine taken out when I was 20. Not because I needed them out. They grew in just as you would expect molars to grow in; however, I had a case of strep that in the end caused my wisdom teeth to be removed.

I was a bleeder. My boss gave me two days off when she heared I was going to have the procedure done. I walked around with a spit cup for a good day. After that I was fine.

I was out cold durring the procedure, and I woke up twice after the event, felt like shittel and went back to sleep. After the third time waking up, I was good to go.

I'd hope my kids dont have them.

All 4 of my wisdom teeth grew in when I was around 20. All 4 had to be extracted because they cause problem of one type or another, mainly just too many teeth in too small of a place. 2 could be extracted by the regular dentist because they were coming in straight. 2 had to be removed by an oral surgeon because they weren't coming in normally.

I once felt like I had 1 more of wisdom tooth coming in on the bottom about 5 years later. Felt like it was erupting. Turned out to be just a gum irritation that really felt similar!

1) Have you got all or some of your wisdom teeth. If so at what age?

Yes I have all four. One came up each summer, starting at around age 19. One of them doesn't feel right though. My top right wisdom tooth feels like it has a hole in it, but it has always felt like that.

My jaw is quite small, and I have small teeth to match, but still they barely fit! My premolars on my lower jaw are displaced slightly forward because they don't fit.

My mouth really felt chocablock with teeth when the wisdom teeth came through. I didn't like them, but I've kind of got used to them now.

None of my adult teeth/wisdom teeth have been extracted.

Yeah, that was me too. The oral surgeon wanted to knock me out. No thanks, that sounds worse than procedure. So, I just had novocaine and that was fine. I didn't mind the sounds.

He kept pushing for the IV thing though before the surgery and I finally I just told him, quit asking, I'm just getting the novocaine.

I had one out a few years ago. Local anesthetic, totally painless, and it healed up no problem.
