It DOES! :bolian:

My short translation of what Mr. Probert just advised me: "I love it, but I gotta have more cowbell." :p

:guffaw: haha that was a reference to my favorite Will Ferral Skit on Saturday Night Live :D

Updated NX - 5150-A Phoenix

I've made a few updates and adjustments, refining the profile. I've decided to eliminate the saucer lower dome. I'm still exploring the studio space, and deciding how I want the spine from the bridge area to the tail to look.

In profile, the nacelles look like they are blocked by the saucer, but I intend to have the nacelles set VERY wide apart to clear the saucer rim.

Re: Updated NX - 5150-A Phoenix

It does look very 50's retro to me now since its colored

Re: Updated NX - 5150-A Phoenix

Starting to look good. It would be interesting to see a 3-D design. She looks fast at any rate!

Re: Updated NX - 5150-A Phoenix

I'm a little unsure about the nacelles - they seem too short for me in relation to the hull and saucer lengths.

Re: Updated NX - 5150-A Phoenix

I REALLY, REALLY, like this design... I love the nacelles the way they are... I woudn't change them at all... the lines as they are are perfect... sweeping and graceful... just go with this, and develop it more... it'll work.

She'll make point five past lightspeed. She may not look like much but she's got it where it counts, kid. I've made a lot of special modifications myself.

Re: Updated NX - 5150-A Phoenix

Well, after a test run 'round the block, I flattened her out by about 15% and I think it makes her lines flow more gracefully:
NX 5150-A flattened

(You can tell she's flying back home from a shakedown cruise 'cuz she's facing the other way.) :guffaw:

Re: Updated NX - 5150-A Phoenix

The update looks GREAT... I'm very glad you did not change the nacelles. I really look forward to seeing this develop... it has tons of promise.

EDIT: You know... this design reminds me a lot of that starship design sketch that is featured in "The Making of Deep Space Nine" , with the caption: "An Enterprise yet to come?", or something like that... I love that sketch, which is probably why I like this one... both are really sleek, and look cool.

Love comes walking in...

When are we going to see your refined front, dorsal and ventral views?

Aye, Sir, I'm workin' on it.

Re: Updated NX - 5150-A Phoenix

That's very cool. It looks like a more natural evolution from the Galaxy class that the Sovereign did.

... Secondly, OMGosh, I think I'm being channeled. Take a look at this sketch I did back in '05:

OverUnder

I dug up the original doodle of the NX-5150 that I did a few months ago, on a notepad while sitting in my car stuck in construction traffic:

Original Doodle with Probert's Under/Over sketch

Yeah, the idea that the curve of the upper saucer would match closely with the curve of the lower secondary hull was very much on my mind, as was the notion that both would be flat on their respective opposite sides.

Although I like where the NX-5150 has gone, I may have to revisit the original doodle, and see how close I can stay to the original concept.

('Cuz, by golly, if it's good enough for the designer of the A and D, it's good enough for me!)

OK, here's a design I've come up with, diverging from the NX-5150, and more faithful both to Probert's "Over/Under" design and MY design I had created after I had aligned my chakras, opened my 3rd eye and channeled the Essential Essence of Mr. Probert:

Excelsior Q

I'll design the nacelle struts after I figure out how to attach them in a non-clunky manner.

Looks ok so far but clarify : Excelsior Q ?

you mean like: USS EXCELSOIR NCC or NX-2000-Q ??
